Hardwood floors in bedroom and area rugs

If you have hardwood floors in your bedroom or in DC bedroom do you have an area rug? If so what size? What is the purpose of an area rug? Is it just for decoraton?

Thanks

Re: Hardwood floors in bedroom and area rugs

We have hardwood in our whole house. We do have an area rug in our bedroom because I dont like getting out of bed and putting my feet directly on the cold floor in the winter. So I guess for some people it's all about preference. I think it finishes off a room, but that is just me. The rug goes a little past the bed on all sides. I believe our rug size is 8x10 and has a queen size bed on it. HTH!

We have hardwood floors in our bedroom and we have an area rug. I like it for not only decoration, but since our bed is on a metal frame (with wheels) it keeps it from shifting all the time too.

The area rug is smaller than the bed and it's a rectangle. It's placed longways (horizontally), from the middle of the bed, to past the foot of the bed and then each side of the bed shows the rug as well.

I'm not sure if this makes sense, but it really looks nice! Chat Icon

ETA: runners on each side of the bed are a nice option too!

We'll have one in our bedroom for the cold floor reason and because I think it's homey. We're using an old one of DH's. Ditto for the living room, but we'll be buying that new. Hopefully, if we can find a good deal!

We have laminate in our bedroom and originally bought a large rug that went under the bed and had some to spare on all sides. Once we put in the floor and then put down the rug, we realized that the floor was too pretty to be soo covered up. However, I do like to sit on the floor and do yoga on carpet, so we put a small (3x5) rug on one side of the bed, anchoring the "reading" chair. It looks great, gives me a place to sit and makes the room cozier.

My DH thought it would make the room look unbalanced, but it works (and was inspired by pottery barn, so we can't go too wrong :)

Re: Hardwood floors in bedroom and area rugs

I wanted the rug for decorations, to bring some color into the room, but also for utility because I want something soft when I get out of bed. We had just put in hardwood flloors in the bedrooms a few ago, so we are still in the process of setting up. We have King bed and got 9X12 rug to over both sides of the bed. The rug will not start flush against the wall. It will start at the end of the nighstand so you can see more of the rug in front of the bed. Hope that makes sense.
