Has anyone actually ever LANDED A JOB that they found through careerbuilder or monster, etc????

I know many people who have applied through these job search websties (me included) but never actually landed a job they originally found through one.

Have you or anyone you know???

ETA: Any good websites to find graphic designer jobs besides craigslist (NY or FL)??

I don't remember if I got the jobs-- but I have certainly gone on a TON of interviews... I prefer Monster, HotJobs, MediaBistro and Craig's List on occasion.

I know for sure two of my jobs-- I found on NYTimes.com

Wow, so it seems like it's not a waste of time to apply on those sites!

Yes, my current job I got thru monster.com. I posted my resume not expecting anything and got called shortly after. Definitely worth doing.

I did - more than once. What usually happens is that I would apply online to a job posted and then the recruiter handling that job posting would contact me. I never got the job that I applied for (often times the original job was already filled or never even discussed), but by applying to the job I opened doors for myself with other opportunities.

So do you think my DH should just put his resume up on Monster (& others) so companies can search for him or should he apply to specific jobs... or both??

I found my current job through Monster (6 years ago).

Have him try dice.com - it's more for technical types of jobs.

DH is looking for a web designer/developer/project manager position and having a really hard time finding a good fit. Good luck to your DH. Chat Icon

ETA: I only ever got contacted by an employer for contract positions or from placement agencies. You really have to find the jobs yourself.

And have him "refresh" his profile/resume on Monster once a week. So if by chance there are any employers searching, he goes to the most recent end of the list.

Yes. I posted my resume all over those websites. The agencies that posted the ads contacted me and I got many jobs that way. What a great resource!

You do have to update your resume so it goes to the top. I didn't know that at first.

I think I found my current job and my last job on idealist.org - a job website with tons of non-profit jobs. I've applied to jobs on just about every big job website though. Mostly never got calls back though.

I have heard (not sure how true this is), that you should pinpoint the companies you are specifically interested in working for and submit your resume directly to their site. Most companies have a "careers" section of their own website.

This is actually how I found my current job although I went on a couple of interviews as a result of Monster! Good luck to your DH! Chat Icon
