has anyone added an egress window to their basement?

I'm curious what something like this would cost. I thought it might be a cheaper alternative to putting in a door.

My DH did one himself for about $700 (materials). We didnt need a door so a window was the better option for us. DH thinks a contractor would have charged us about 2K.

I do think it was about 2 k (I can double check) for our basement - it also included adding fire doors and a Bannister. But we couldn't have done it ourselves - no way are we handy enough to cut through the walls and stuff.

Thanks we were just looking for a ballpark figure so both your comments helped a lot. We were quoted $7k to put a door in and quite frankly I don't think we need one. This is definitely not something we plan on doing ourselves. Does anyone happen to have pictures of their egress windows?

it would matter on materials for cost

we put in a window and well - the well is a rockwell prefab fake stone stone wall and i think was about $350 or $500 plus cost of the window
