Has anyone adopted domestically? What were the costs?

We are considering adoption and are working through all of the pro's/cons while we are tyring IVF as well.

We have heard so many stories of people paying an amazing amount of money and then some paying much less.

I would love to hear any feedback that you many have!

Thanks!

Re: Has anyone adopted domestically? What were the costs?

Domestic adoption costs are vary a lot depending on a ton of factors. Some birth mothers require medical care costs, living costs such as rent/electric/food, clothing and other are very self sufficent and require very in the way of support. There are legal costs that the adoptive parents pay for both the birth mother and themselves.
You should contact a few agencies to understand exactly what the cost entail.
The issue with domestic adoption is that you are not as protected financially because birth mother can change their mind, and each state as their own laws about how long they have to do so. If that happens you often can't get your money back..because the birth mothers don't have it to give you.
I know my agency does domestic adoption

I also have a friend who used a lawyer to help her find a birthmother...she has 2 failed adoptions and then a wonderful adoption of a healthy perfect baby girl. She says it all worked out for the best.

As I understand it, there are no financial guarantees with domestic adoptions like there are with international adoptions. With international, you know exactly when you'll be paying exactly what sum of money.

Re: Has anyone adopted domestically? What were the costs?

My SIL adopted domestically. It was less than $14,000. She just lucked out. She worked w/ an adoption attorney here on LI and I know that the first initial visit is either $500 or $650. My SIL was there for the birth of the child. Now the child is 4 yrs old, BEAUTIFUL and looks like one of the family. The baby was from Rochester. When I first met her (child) I was like, wow, this girl is gorgeous!!! she looks like her dad! MY FH (now DH) was like, "how could that be, Chat Icon she is adopted!--I was blown away.

Anyway it was less than $14,000 total.
