Has anyone else needed the RhoGam shot?
At today's visit my doctor mentioned that since my blood type is A negative, I will need this shot at my next visit. From what I've read, I assume that the baby's blood is positive so I need the shot to prevent my body from fighting the pregnancy and baby. Has anyone else had this? I'm nervous about it...

Yep I had it last month. It was nothing really, and I am totally afraid of putting anything like that into my body.
I had to go to the hospital for it though, so that the lab could do the blood work. For some reason they would not take the Dr's tests.

Don't be nervous about it.
I haven't had it, but I have heard about it in my line of work and it can be very determental if the doctor doesn't administer the shot.

I had it and it really hurts. I think mine hurt because it was cold when they injected it so it burned.

Re: Has anyone else needed the RhoGam shot?
Yes I needed it at 28 weeks and then again when I delived because the baby was positive. I will need it with every pregnancy I have. It is basically so your body doesnt reject the pregnancy if the blood were to ever mix from my understanding

Re: Has anyone else needed the RhoGam shot?
Its nothing they gave me the shot at 23 or 25 weeks. It didn't hurt at all...barely felt it. I had another after I gave birth because the abby's blood type was positive. It is really as a precaution for your next pregnanacy as well so your body doesnt reject your next pregnancy. It is nothing to be scared of.

It's the Rh factor.
I'm 0 neg and DH is postive so I have to have it - the idea is that the baby might have positive blood and the mother's antibodies will attack the babies blood (not a scientific answer at all - pardon my ignorance, but that's the general idea)
a lot of my friends had it done and said it's no big deal at all.

Re: Has anyone else needed the RhoGam shot?
I'm new here, but just chiming in. My blood type is O neg so I had to get it at 6 weeks because of spotting. So if you spot, make sure you tell your doctor because it's advised that you get the shot.
Also, just a question for those that have gotten it. Did your doctor write you an RX for it and you had to pick it up at the pharmacy and pay for it yourself? I had to do that which I thought was strange. Never had to do that with my first (in NC).

Re: Has anyone else needed the RhoGam shot?
I got it about 26 (I will have to get it again for this one too), at the doctors office. No big deal. In the butt and I barely noticed!

I also had it early due to spotting. It did not hurt me & I got it in the arm. I will get it again at 28 weeks & then at delivery if the baby is positive.

Re: Has anyone else needed the RhoGam shot?
I am O- and DH is A+ so I needed to get it at 28 weeks, b/c just in case the baby turned out to be positive it could somehow affect my next pregnancy. The shot was no big deal, in the arm at the doctors office. If the baby was positive then I would have had another shot in the hospital after delivery, but the baby was also negative so I didn't need it.

I had it with my 1st pregnancy and will get another shot at 28 weeks with this one. There is nothing to worry about.
