Has anyone ever heard of such a thing, re: my husband having a car accident on a new car and getting a part for it!!
My husband had a pretty bad accident (he's fine) 3 weeks ago with his new 2012 Dodge Charger. There is 17,000 in damage!!
Would you believe Chrysler cannot locate a new hood for the car? This is a brand new car! Our auto guy has had our car for three weeks and was told this week they SHOULD have a date for it coming in. I've never heard of such a thing. Someone suggested I call The Chrysler Corporation, anyone else think so? How can there be no new hoods for a new car when people have accidents?

Could it be the auto body shop not being truthful? Can I ask what shop youre using?

I would assume that is because the hoods that you get are from old parts and because it is a 2012 they don't have any "old" parts laying around.

Na, totally honest-all my families been using them forever. They're great. It's Greg and Bills in Medford.

We would ONLY ever use Chrysler parts. This is $40,000 car that's brand new so of course they're using only name brand parts. So, this can't be the reason. Thanks though:)

There's a difference between "brand new" parts and "name brand" parts. Check your insurance coverage, as some of the big companies (i.e. Progressive) are known for not using new parts.
I agree with the PP, they are most likely having a hard time tracking down a matching hood.

Whether it's Chrysler parts or not, this is the reason. They get spare parts from reclaimed cars - via trade-in, cars that were totaled in accidents, etc. When you goto the body shop you rarely get a new part from the manufacturer, it's a part that comes off of another car. Since its a new model year, there are no other car hoods laying around for them to get.
I had this problem when I also had a car accident with a new model year car - it took them a while to locate the a body part for the new model year car.

Thanks. We have State Farm and all parts being gotten will be brand new, they better for almost 18,000. Our collision guy woul only get new for a brand new car like this. He told us Chrysler "claims" they have no new hoods in stock. My guy said they bang out all these new cars but don't have parts when people need them.

That's annoying...I remember my brother having trouble with his 4 runner when it was new. He needed a new axil and had to wait months for it to come from japan since no one had the parts. He wound up with a rental for a while.

Re: Has anyone ever heard of such a thing, re: my husband having a car accident on a new car and getting a part for it!!
I have worked in a body shop in deer park for 11 yrs now, they wanna get rid of ur car n collect that check im sure....not sure who u used but yes we have a part one time on a brand new maxima we had to wait for the part for honestly a month , i Oder the parts an called many out of state dealerships sometimes a part can be on backorder with no eta. My advice maybe do some foot work call some dealerships if u don't trust them maybe u get lucky and one may have it ..best of luck n glad to hear your hubby is doing well.

My DH works in the ins business & it can happen where they can't get parts to repair the newer cars. I hear him complaining about it every once in awhile.
