how much should baby sleep during day at 6 weeks?

OMG< so i have a really colicy baby..well, i am extremely thrilled bc she is finally loving her swing! One problem, she is fussy if i take her out and she wont stop sleeping in the thing..all morning ..i took her out at 1030 after 2.5 hours of sleep and then put her back an hour and a half later and she is out again!

Normally she was only taking one nap from 1-430 each day..maybe she was sleep deprived?

She got up at 4am today and that was that..she went down at 830-1 and then 130-4...ugh,
should i let her sleep and get into a pattern or do i have to modify or change it to get more sleep? Are they too young really at this point and i just have to go with the flow?

A baby sleeps when they need it at that age. My ds would spend some days sleeping alot during the day and other days no sleep at all. I never would wake my ds up when he was napping. He was always a good sleeper at night so whatever he did during the day i was ok with. When she is hungry she will get up and look for food.

A baby should not be awake more than1.5-2 hours up until 4 months old. So it seems like she is right on track. You should read the book Healthy Sleeping Habits Happy Child. I found some of the ideas in this book very helpful.

Thanks! I wondered as i was going crazy with the 5 hours of awake time ...she got so overtired..the swing is my miracle-maybe she will sleep better at night when she is more relaxed..
