Has Anyone Given Their Child Who Is Two Years Old and Beyond Children's Zyrtec?
Chloe has a mega cold. We just got back from the DR. Now that she's 2 1/2 they've suggested to try a 1/2 TSP of Children's Zyrtec. I only found the generic one at CVS. Should I give it if she cannot sleep due to this BAD cold? Opinions PLEASE. Now that she's "of age" for other MEDS it scares the heck out of me:)
Thanks, Keri

Last year I gave my 3 year old DS Children's Claritin daily during allergy season as per peds instructions. She said she likes Claritin better than Zyrtec because it generally has less side effects. She said Zyrtec has been known to make kids hyper.

DS has been having allergies and the ped recommended Zyrtec. We've been giving it to him since Saturday. Not sure it's actually helping, though. DS is 27 months.

I gave DS claritin last year when he was 1.5, I think I'll be trying zyrtec, his allergist says its the best allergy med out there.

Re: Has Anyone Given Their Child Who Is Two Years Old and Beyond Children's Zyrtec?
emma is 22 months and our doc, this past Friday told us to give her 1/2 a tsp every night to see if helps with a chronic cough she's been having.
when i got to the store, they didn't have infants - only children's - i called the ped back to clarify and he said to use the CHILDREN'S one...so we have been.

Yes, DS has been on it since 18 mos, but for allergies, not a cold.

Re: Has Anyone Given Their Child Who Is Two Years Old and Beyond Children's Zyrtec?
At 18 months we started DS on Zyrtec (and moved to the generic brands eventually because of some Zyrtec recall thing) but it was for his allergies which were causing ear infections.
It helped keep him less "drippy" therefore keeping him from getting the ear infections.
I just followed the ped / allergist advice on dosage so I am not even sure what the packaging says for dose some Mom I am!
But it did help him with stuff like that so give it a shot!

Re: Has Anyone Given Their Child Who Is Two Years Old and Beyond Children's Zyrtec?
I did - the allergist had my DD on it for head to toe hives that we are trying to figure out what caused it. She went on it after benadryl. I HATED it. They 1st had her on a larger dose and it made her jump off the wall loopy. Then when we reduced the dose to the amount on the box - it made her lethargic and honest - a bit depressed/weepy. I made them switch her to children's allergra and while she was on that she was completely fine and back to normal.
I looked online and there were lots of people who said that their children acted strangely or had issues with zyrtec. I would ask about maybe allerga or claritin (which isn't as strong though). I'm not a fan.

Re: Has Anyone Given Their Child Who Is Two Years Old and Beyond Children's Zyrtec?
If your ped recommended it, go for it.
Zyrtec did nothing for AJ but then again her bottle was part of the recall so that may have had something to do with it. Most definitely its why you may have problems finding the name brand too.
We use Children's Claritin 1/2 tsp every 12hrs for maintenance. With 1 tsp of Benedryl if she's off the Claritin for major help (like today).

We were also told to give this to our 1 and 2 year old at bedtime for a chronic cough. We also use the generic Children's Zyrtec. Make sure you only give the 1/2 tsp once daily since it is a 24 hour med. Hope DD feels better!
