Has anyone had a Gall Bladder Attack? What does it feel like?
I'm trying to figure out what's going on here. I woke up in the middle of the night in severe pain that got worse over 1/2 hour. I ended up calling my OB and he said my pain and symptoms were too high to be pregnancy related and that maybe I had a stomach bug brewing. Well I have no symptoms of a stomach bug (just some heartburn last night)just pain in my upper abdomen (more on the right side). It varies in intensity. I'm going to my regular doctor at 2:30 but I'm just wondering if it could be a gall bladder attack? It's not contractions or round ligament pain.

I had my gallbladder removed when I was 14!!! The pain feels sharp and mine went straight through my back. It was on the upper right side. It was very painful. My sister had the same type of pain and had to have hers removed too. It would last for a few hours and go away on it's own once the food digested or I would throw up and it would go away. Stay away from greasy foods, butter, etc. Hope you feel better!

YES!!!!!!!! I have had about 5 in the past 3 months
Some were worse than others. The pain was right by my diaphragm and would someones go towards my back. Do you have a fever or are you nauseous? Eat LOW fat! NO cheese, milk, fried, dairy or anything like that until you see a doctor. I was told it could come within about 1 hour after eating a "bad" food. I have been in the hospital 3x for it, so if the pain gets worse just GO to the hospital!
I feel your pain (literally!)

Last night the pain was on my back radiating around to the front, I was in so much pain I didn't take notice to whether it was one sided or not. I just thought I was going to die it was so bad. I had heartburn but no fever or nausea last night. Just severe pain. I almost went to the ER but waited it out. I had about 3 "attacks" of severe pain. This morning it is more of a dull ache that is definitely more on my right side, kind of near the bottom of my rib cage. The pain doesn't totally go away but it has been mild to moderate on and off throughout the morning, not as severe as last night. I haven't eaten anything. I'm afraid that it will make me have severe pain again.

Re: Has anyone had a Gall Bladder Attack? What does it feel like?
I had one back in 2001 which resulted in surgery. I actually had stones too.
My first attack came after eating a steak dinner (high fat foods are a trigger because the gallbladder regulates the release of bile into the stomach to aid in digestion). It felt like REALLY bad gas but higher and I was doubled over in pain.
My 2nd attack came after chinese food and 1/2 a pint of Ben & Jerry's. I had sweats and chills. I swore I was dying. I couldn't lay down, I couldn't stand up straight. I felt sick to my stomach. The pain was in my upper right, under the rib cage and radiated to the back on the right side.
Did you eat anything that was high in fat?

Re: Has anyone had a Gall Bladder Attack? What does it feel like?
You sound like you had/are having the same kinds of attacks I did VERY painful and nothing really helps.
IMO, if you are in that much pain again, PLEASE just go to the hospital. They can do a sono & blood tests right away and determine if you have gall stones. In my case, the pain was caused by the stones trying to pass through my ducts. I got Demerol for the pain - it was just too much!
How many weeks are you?

The pain is much less now but if it gets worse I will definitely head to the hospital.
Do you think my doctor will send me for tests? I really want to find out what this is/was.
Shana-We did have a pretty fatty dinner last night. After eating disgusting All Inclusive food for a week I wanted a burger We had potato skins, 1/2 a burger and a loaded baked potato. That was around 6:30. The pain started around 10:30pm and lasted for hours.

Re: Has anyone had a Gall Bladder Attack? What does it feel like?
The best thing for your doc to do is send you to have tests done. You don't need to sit around thinking "what was it...?" for weeks or months - KWIM?
Especially if the pain is gone, it would make me think it is gall bladder related as sometimes the stones move around and then are still again.
If you had a lot of cheese last night with those burgers & skins, that could surely be the cause!!!
