Has anyone had to stop BFing due to teeth and biting?

I need to start off by saying that I am PMSing and crazy right now...i am beyond emotional and irrational.

DD is 8 months old and has 8 teeth. She is always biting something or someone. She has nip at me while BFing...but never hard and I always say NO and pull her off and put my boobie away. This does not help at all by the way!

Yesterday was the worst day EVER!!!! So...I was nursing DD and all of a sudden CHOMP! She bit me so hard I saw stars....and blood! Thank god my mother was right there to take her away from me. As soon as my mother had her I started HYSTERICALLY crying!!! I guess first from the pain and then because I was so mad at her for doing that to me. I spent the next 3 hours....crying...totally out of control....but I felt so bad for being so angry at her(she is 8 months old...how can I be angry at an 8 month old!!! She doesn't know about biting!!!) I felt like the worst mother alive....then I started crying because I don't think i can continue to BF if she is going to bite....its too much...i am never relaxed....and always nervous she is going to bite me. I really wanted to BF for a year....I am so ridiculously upset over this i don't even know what to do!

Every time i think about stopping....i start to cry. Every time I see her cute face....i start to cry.

Has anyone had to stop BFing due to teeth/biting? Any advice? Any suggestions on how to stop her from biting?

Also....is it normal for a 8 month old to want to bite EVERYTHING and EVERYONE? Am I going to have an obnoxious biter on my hands??? Is this a phase? Does it stop?

Unfortunately, yes. I had to stop BF because DD was biting me.

It wasn't my plan...I wanted to keep going. The first time she bit me, I broke her latch and gave her a stern "no". She thought it was funny.

The second time she bit me, I did the same thing and this time she cried because I said it pretty loud.

The next time I tried to nurse her, she arched her back and screamed bloody murder, like I was trying to kill her.

That was it for BF. She never nursed again. So the whole "no" tactic didn't work so well for us.

I did and had to switch to EP'ing. DD never learned to stop biting once her teeth started coming in, so now she happily drinks BM out of all her sippy cups. And she still bites through all the spouts

I'm so sorry! My son bit me a few times when he first got his teeth andI was so nervous and uneasy for a few feeds. When when he bit my a said no and he startedto cry (like he didn't understand). I felt so bad. Anyway, it only happened a few times and then he stopped. I would say that give it a few more feedings and if she continues you have no choice (right?) Don't feel bad at all, I would never be able to continue to bf if this became a prob

I'm so sorry that happened!

Loey has only bit me a few times. The first was such a shock to me... I broke the latch and told him no and I think he got the point. The only other time he did it was when he was not really hungry and was just "playing" - which I feel like is my fault for trying to keep him there when he wasn't eating!

I really have no advice, but I'm so sorry. The first time he bit me I was SO upset also because I didn't want to become afraid about BFing him.... so I feel your pain!

Yikes!! That stinks! DD has gotten me a couple times but never too too bad. I pretty much did what you did and it worked. Just stopping and saying no biting. Maybe try watching her and see if you can tell when she's about to? DD was a little stinker and would make a game out of it. She'd make like she was about to and just bite down a little bit and giggle.
