Has anyone traveled to Europe with a toddler?
I'm thinking of just taking the plunge, and renting a Villa in Tuscany for a week. Is this crazy thinking with a 2+ year old?

Re: Has anyone traveled to Europe with a toddler?
We will be doing this in April . Going to Italy for 10 days and staying with DH's family. They have an extra apartment in their complex.
I know it doesn't answer your question but am curious to know also how others have made out.

Re: Has anyone traveled to Europe with a toddler?
Its doable...easier than going to a big city I think. Some cities are really child friendly, and others aren't. For instance, Barcelona is great for kids, IMO Paris isn't. I think if you have a base like a house or a villa, its a lot nicer than having just a hotel room as a base.
I think a sight seeing holiday is harder than a proper villa type resting holiday.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. We could travel and do a little sightseeing here and there, but it would certainly be much easier if we had a home base, with a pool and a huge outside area where she can run around.
Hmmmmmm... the wheels are turning

I think you should GO for IT! Other than the long plane ride, Alex will do beautifully and you'll have such a great time!

We did Italy/Switzerland with Ella in November (she was 17 months). It was fine, just a pain if restaurants didn't have high chairs.
We're in the midst of planning a fall vacation for 2008 - looking into Greek villas. I think villas are a great way to go with toddlers.

Re: Has anyone traveled to Europe with a toddler?
Of course it's doable. People do have children overseas (Paris or country side in Italy!). Your main "issue" will be travelling 8+ hours to go to Europe in an airplane with a toddler.

Re: Has anyone traveled to Europe with a toddler?
We will be going to Italy in August with my family - Jack will be 14 months.
Beth - I really know NOTHING about Italy at all - but I know that my family did toss around the idea of getting a house in Tuscany also (not this trip - but the next one) and my mom made a comment that Tuscany is kind of far away from other areas if you were planning on hitting up other cities.
I'm not sure how far - or even if this is what she said -- being that when my mom talks I half listen. I just called her to find out for sure - but got her voicemail.
She is obssessed with Italy and knows every little detail about it.
I think it will be easy to stay in a villa though! Go for it!

DD turns 2 next week and has been to Europe three times - she will be there again this June. No problems at all ,most of europe is very child friendly.

This is my main issue. DH wants to visit his family in Poland and that plane trip is 9 1/2 hours and then you have to factor in the time in the airport before and after. I know it is doable but I just dread the trip.
