For those of you that have traveled with a toddler what do you when you go they go to sleep?
So it looks like we are going away in May as a family to the carribean with my BIL and his family and DH is going away for the wedding by himself in August.
How does the whole sleeping situation work? DS did sleep in our room when we were staying with my parents but I was able to put him down and then go downstairs. Where will we go because I put him down awake? DD I am not so worried about. Do you just go to sleep when they do? Also did you did stick to their bedtime or did you stay out later (they go to bed now between 7 & 7:30pm).

Can you get a suite?
That's what we are doing when we go to Italy this summer.
I know what my cousins did - when they put the boys to bed - they got hammered in the bathroom. I swear. They called me while they were sitting on the bathroom floor.

Re: For those of you that have traveled with a toddler what do you when you go they go to sleep?
Why would you have to go to sleep when they do?
Honestly, as much as I try to keep their schedules, there are times when you just have to suck it up.
If we're away, we usually stay in a villa-type of resort or in a condo-type room, so that if we want to stay up and chat, drink, watch tv, etc. we can do so without distracting the kids. I will tell you, however, that if we're out past the kids bedtimes/naps, they just fall asleep in the stroller and we'll just scoop them out and put them into bed when we get home. It's never been a problem for us.
I'm not saying that what anyone else does is wrong/right, but just that just because you have kids, doesn't mean that you should stop having fun or doing what you want to do.
My kids have gone out to dinner/parties with us from day 1, literally. I believe that it's helped us tremendously in that we can go out anywhere (regardless of the time) and they are not a problem!
All the best to you!

DH and I use to lay in total darkness until we were sure DD was asleep and then we turn on the TV(for light and entertainment) until we were ready to go to bed.

We had a room with a balcony and we ordered pizza and sat on the balcony. Last year in Florida our room had a kitchen with an alcove and we put the pack and play in the kitchen so we could watch TV in the room.

Most recently we weren't able to get a suite so we just went to bed when they did.

We are going away in March and will be staying with family. The guest rooms will hopefully have enough room for the PNP and I will put DS to sleep whenever we get in from whatever we are doing that day. Im guessing if we are out and about, he will fall asleep in the stroller or in the car, then we will just put him in bed if he doesn't wake up from the transition.
