has anyone turned their dining room into a play room?

We have no more room in my den for toys and once Luke becomes mobile, I just don't know what to do. The only option is to turn our dining room, which we barely use, into a play room for now. Has anyone else done this? I hate getting rid of the room but Im losing it.

Re: has anyone turned their dining room into a play room?

We don't even have a dining room... LOL. Just a decent sized living room and kitchen, with a small hallway and 2 bedrooms ... DS just became mobile about 2 weeks ago...army crawl at least. Currently I am a SAHM, so I have a cleaning routine. The only thing out in the living room is his jumperoo, which he hates going in now, so I may retrie soon. Once that's out, it's just his small-ish toy box with all his little toys. Once he goes to bed, or naps, or we go out, I pick up all the toys each single time LOL. His room still has alot of stuff he doesn't touch, like his swing, and exersaucer. Now that he's mobile, he hates anything that keeps him trapped lol... so once I put all that stuff up in the attic, I'm prolly gonna move his toy box into his room as well. Yes, it's a LOT more annoying, but I still feel liek I have my own house LOL. I would KILL for a dining room right now.. so after all my rambling, I think I would keep the dining room even if it wasn't used much. I would prolly keep bigger things in there to get mainly out of the way, but that's really it. but that's just me.. LOL.

Have you retired any toys yet?

I would get good toy storage rather than give up a dining room.

My 2.5 year old has so many big toys, a kitchen, easel, train table, etc. and now my little guy has his jumperoo, likes to roll all over and has his own set of floor toys.

I would LOVE to use my basement but it floods. I need a new house desperately.

My livign room is full of toys(we don't have a dining room). We didn't remove anything from it though!

Do you have a guest room?

We have 4 bedrooms but none are used as guest rooms.

If you do, I would remove the bed, get a futton and use it as a playroom.

Our dining room stopped being a dining room when DS was born. We use the table as a changing table. It was easier on me after my C/S. We don't have a changing table at the moment. We have everything he needs on the table. We also use it to store his high chair and all his big items...I would love to make it his play area, but we have run out of room in this apt...

Is the den that the toys are in now separate from the living room? If so, post a pic and maybe we can help you organize it.

We recently turned our VERY small den/office into an office/playroom and it's working out great! We also have some toys in a bin in the living room for when we're hanging out there.

We have toys in our living room, and our office is also a playroom. Do you have another bedroom that you can kind of do the same? I personally wouldn't change your dining room for more toys...I would just try to eliminate some that you have now (or rotate them) Chat Icon

Re: has anyone turned their dining room into a play room?

My dining room has never functioned as a dining room...one day!
We bought a 4 bed/1 bath cape initially. We then made one main bedroom downstairs into a dining room but used it as a playroom when ryan was young. Now, we made the house bigger and I have a dedicated playroom, but my dining room is the family room LOL
I say, do what suits your family most. A playroom gets used everyday - esp. When you're a SAHM - a DR probably a handful of times throughout the yr

Re: has anyone turned their dining room into a play room?

We used to have our dining room set up as a playroom too but we didn't get rid of the furniture. We took the leaf out, tunred the table sidewyas instead of long ways, and pushed it again the window. The whole fron end was a payroom. But between that and the living room, it looked like Toys R Us threw up in my house. This past winter we changed our two car garage into a full playroom and reclaimed our upstairs. Now the only toys that can be upstairs are what DS is playing with at the moment. He keeps a basket upstairs and if he wants something else, we bring the basket down, put away what he was playing with and switch it out with what he wants to bring up.

Re: has anyone turned their dining room into a play room?

I do have an "office" where DH's computer is. There is a couch in there that no one uses, maybe I will remove that and put toys in there. I already have a PNP in there. This would be my only other option. I had 4 kids at times LOL so there are no free bedrooms. I really need a new house!

We have a "L" shaped Dining/Living room and we have toys in both Chat Icon Chat Icon

Right now b/c my ds is so mobile we have moved the table up against the wall... I hate it that way, but it prevents a lot of bumped heads...

Our playroom is in computer room.

I would use it as the playroom.

Re: has anyone turned their dining room into a play room?

Yes we have. Our den connects to our dining room. We also ran out of space with the bigger toys. After last x-mas I had no room for anything. We pushed the dining room table/chairs against the wall and now the bigger toys/play table overflow into there. It works for us. Also, I can still convert it back to the dining room pretty quick when needed.
