Has anyones child had stitches?

Johnny fell this am into the corner of a table.

The physicians assistant put glue on the wound, saying it didn't need stitches....then she glues the lid at the corner and when she pulled the lid apart, she ripped the cut....SOOOO then he needed one stitch.

My question is....should i take him to a plastic surgeon to make sure it looks ok?? I asked for one at the hospital (my mom told me to do this..) and they said it wasn't necessary.

Did anyone go through this? Am i being a worrywart??

Re: Has anyones child had stitches?

where is the wound?

I would def. get a plastic surgeon if it is on the face or hands. If it is anywhere else I would still consider it.

Re: Has anyones child had stitches?

Hmmm....my stepdaughter needed 6 stiches last year by her eye (she was 9 at the time) and DH asked for a plastic surgeon at the hospital.

For 1 stitch...it might not make a difference though Chat Icon

Emily had a similar incident when she was 15 months old. We insisted upon a Plastic Surgeon even though they said it wasn't necessary. She ended up with like 6 or 7 stitches in her forehead. If is his face- I would go to a PS.

My DD had stitches when she was 3 on her eyebrow and now that she is 12 you can't even tell she ever had stitches there. The scar will grows with the skin and eventually disappears.

Re: Has anyones child had stitches?

My DS #1 got stitches 2x, once on his forehead and once on his mouth. Both times I waited for them to call the plastic surgeon on call to come in and do the repairs. His wounds sound like they were a lot bigger than your son's bc they required many stitches, esp the mouth but I would probably still take him as well. The facial wounds heal very quickly though but a plastic surgeon can advise you on what to do to avoid any scarring.

ds#1 had stitches on the corner of his eye also and they said it was a clean cut so a plastic surgeon wasn't necessary. Now every time I see how it healed I wish I would of pushed for a plastic surgeon.

Thanks to everyone who responded Chat Icon

I decided to leave him alone. It is one tiny stitch...however...we are going to our pediatrician today to have her look at it.

Thanks again!
