Has anyone's doc recommended AGAINST a 3D/4D sono?
My doctor seems pretty against the whole thing and while he hasn't come out saying it's bad, he did say he doesn't think I should do it or give them my sono reports.
I think he's just being too conservative and he said that it's just a gimmick to make $$$$.
Dh and I were really looking forward to it, and now we are hesitant.
Any input?

He might be conservative, but I would probably follow the advice of my doctor.

My 3D was a routine sono--so I dont think it is harmful to the baby

I must say that my doctor is pretty liberal in a lot of aspects of pregnancy, BUT he said that it was unnecessary for me to go and get one done without a valid reason (they're usually performed if there is a soft tissue issue)...he's not all for it at all...even the regular sonos he tries to limit to as little as possible.

Unfortunately a lot of places are in it for the money only and most MD offices will try and talk you out of it because you are not giving THEM the $$. On another note, sometimes it's recommended, so therefore if you want to have it done, I say do it! The place we went to have our Level II sonogram tried to talk us out of it, by saying it's not good to have such a powerful sonogram, but we did it anyway. Turns out they just wanted the money. We did it and it was INCREDIBLE and have no regrets!
ETA: if it was/is so harmful to the baby, why are there so many places that offer it ,and I get sono's every time I go to my doctor..so it depends on the MD.

Same here... no medical reason for it.

You're right, but originally our moms were not able to make it to the Level II so we decided to do this so they could see the baby.

My doc actually has the $99 special postcards in the exam room. So I don't think she would be against it. I'll have to ask.

It's up to you, but I would listen to my doctor. Mine feels the same, and she is also pretty liberal about other things.
Some believe that too many sonograms may harm the fetus, though I haven't found any research showing this to be true. I think maybe effects of sonograms are unclear, so most doctors err on the side of caution. I do know most doctors discourage the use of at-home Doppler devices.
If you really want it, it would probably be fine, but personally, I plan on skipping this. I did read that sonograms may scare the baby (sounds like a helicoptor to them) so I'd rather not scare our little one more than we need to!

Yes, I was advised agaisnt it. He felt that if there is no reason to do it, not to because the places that perform them aren't really trained 100%. Also, they don't have enough information on the effect the ultrasound as such a high level can have on a baby.
