Has Aruba changed that much in 7 years???
We went on our honeymoon there literally days after the disappearance of Natalie Holloway. We didnt see one cop or search party in the 10 days we were there. We rented a car and drove around the whole island too. That was sad but we were on our honeymoon and kind of oblivious.
Anyway, as I said, we drove around alone and even got lost and had to ask directions from some random guy walking around in the house area (not near any hotels or towns) and he was friendly and helpful.
I cant believe so many people are afraid to travel there. Am I naive? What has changed??
We were planning on going back for our 10 year anniversary with DS.

Has Aruba changed that much in 7 years???
We went for our HM last year and I was never afraid or felt that we were in a "bad" area. We went on excursions that took us all over the island. I had never been there before, so I can't say if it's changed, but I don't see any reason to be afraid to travel there. I think some people "won't" travel there because of the way the Holloway case was handled, not because of any danger. We have friends that have a timeshare there and go several times a year - they have never had any issues.

Re: Has Aruba changed that much in 7 years???
we took my son when he was 2 1/2 or 3 maybe and we felt completely safe. I never felt threatened or scared at all. We even drove around to tour the island by ourselves, went to the grocery store a few times, etc etc.
But then again i wasn't 20 and hanging out at a bar late at night.

I dont think ppl on this board do not travel bc they feel unsafe, i think they do not travel there bc of the politics behind how they treated the Holloway case.

My ILs go there every year, and were there a few weeks ago and have never felt unsafe. I would go and I would take my DD there as well.

I honestly didnt follow the story But I am glad to hear that it is still a safe island to travel to and around.

I went there in 2010 and 2011 and it was the same as you described. I don't think it has changed.

Re: Has Aruba changed that much in 7 years???
DH and I just went to Aruba this past May. I never felt unsafe for a second. We did a lot of exploring on our own off of our hotel property, and talked to a lot of locals. DH has never been on a vacation in the Caribbean, and I kept telling him that I couldnt believe how safe I felt the entire time we were there. We're expecting in a few months, and we will absolutely be taking him on vacations to Aruba without any hesitation.

Re: Has Aruba changed that much in 7 years???
i have gone 3 times with my kids and we love it there..
It is one of the safest islands in the Caribbean .
We walk the high rise strip every night to all the different restaurants and never ever felt like any part was sketchy!
Definitely recommend Aruba for adults or family friendly vacations!
