My coworker who has a severe food allergy was unknowingly exposed to the food and got severe stomach cramps to the point of not being able to stand up. She went to urgent care hoping for an epi pen shot or something. The doctor did not even examine her before telling her she had Covid and forcing her to get a test. He said abdominal pain is a symptom. She was so upset. Luckily she felt better 24 hours later but it took a week to get the test results back. Obviously negative.
Did they not address her real issue? The allergy? Because if they didn't and God forbid something more serious happened to her because of their Covid tunnel vision, I could see a huge lawsuit.
Exactly! They gave her nothing! Thankfully she was ok and will have an epi pen in future but she was so upset because she was adamant to doctor that she did not have any other Covid symptoms. Sometimes I feel like people WANT it to be Covid.
They do. So they have an excuse to lock us up again. I won't go anywhere near a doctor right now unless I'm close to death.

Re: has the CDC, NYS etc lost their fing minds!!!
If the doctors are handing out Covid diagnoses without testing then we are screwed this winter. My kids were both sick last January - DS got swabbed for the flu and came back positive and my DD is a huge baby so did not want to get swabbed so the doctor did not force her and said "she has the flu also"! I was annoyed as she was just assuming she had the flu. I took my DD back the next day and insisted she get swabbed and the results were negative. So if I had not gotten her tested she would be in the system as positive for flu based on the doctor's assumption.

Where I live, thank god they separate out “suspected” cases from test-confirmed cases to track our covid numbers. (IDK if NY does that? I hope so) I check the covid charts all the time and the suspected cases are always super high... and then they never actually become confirmed cases.
If anyone starts going by suspected case numbers instead of actual confirmed cases, we are screwed and will end up locked up forever.
I am sooooo over everything that’s going on with this stuff.

i got clarification on my BOE meeting.
They dont have to get a covid test but see a dr and let them determine.
Its still ******** becuase thats time away from work and copays that will have to be paid every time!! insanity!!
Can you imagine walking into a doctor's office and saying, hi, I'm here because I had a headache yesterday! They should look at you like your insane and refer you to a shrink!
seriously my PED is so lax he will be like are they kidding me!!
We have to test. I spoke with someone from my peds office this weekend at a social function. She said that usually they will test based on two or more minor symptoms (stomach ache, headache) or one major symptom (cough, fever). They have been slammed since school started since all districts are requiring a Dr visit and a negative test.
The child in our school who tested positive over the weekend is participating in virtual learning this week and seems fine (we are unsure why he was tested - nobody is close friends with the family) so who knows how many kids have Covid right now.
I don't think one major symptom and two minor symptoms are unreasonable criteria for a test.

has the CDC, NYS etc lost their fing minds!!!
The only good thing that's going to come out of this is it will lead to a ton of extra (and you can say unnecessary) testing. All these negative tests will keep the infection percentages down which will hopefully keep schools open.

At the expense of terrified children with colds who need to be physically restrained? Really? That's a good thing?

And that is why I refuse to see a doctor unless I'm having chest pains or bleeding to death. And I'm sure borh of those will somehow be attributed to Covid.

Yup - I’m sure many feel this way and some aren’t getting necessary treatment because of it. Not to mention all the missed (non covid) medical treatment/appointments over the past several months - cancer screenings etc. - back when everything was fully closed. Bc only covid matters!

I’m really disgusted by this. Thank god your friend is ok, but that could’ve been fatal.
That is actually beyond disgusting and negligent and I'd probably be hiring a lawyer.

has the CDC, NYS etc lost their fing minds!!!
Took my 7 year old to Urgent Care last night to get a strep test. Doctor says “He has congestion, so it’s not strep”. Then spends the next half hour explaining all of my Covid testing options. (Rapid test, but they’re not accurate, and we wouldn’t test today because it’s his first day of symptoms, we can make an appointment for you for a regular test tomorrow, etc...). Finally I insisted on the strep test and lo and behold, he has strep!! Then she tells me it could be a “false positive”. Ridiculous.

Omg. Are they being told to do this? Are they being told to ignore every other diagnosis and disease on the planet and just push for a Covid diagnosis? Strep left untreated can be serious. There is no treatment for Covid. It's actually pretty scary and disturbing.

I think this doctor was just a moron. Thank goodness I insisted on the strep test.

Why does it seem that all urgent cares just want to test everyone for covid while primary care docs are not jumping to do so? I find this very strange and it’s making me not want to go anywhere near an urgent care unless I’m concerned that I might have covid.

I agree - one major symptom or two minor symptoms are not unreasonable but the school districts want testing with any one symptom - major or minor.

From a science standpoint, it’s best to be testing large numbers of people. This should include people with no symptoms so they have a better handle of actual number of cases. If only those who are symptomatic get tested, actual percent positives are not as reliable/valid to know the true infection rate.
Bigger sample size = more valid data

That I understand but it doesn't explain the discrepancy in care.
So does the government have urgent care centers testing anyone with any remote possibility of covid? Why aren't primary care docs doing the same?

This was part of the reason I kept my daughter remote. There were way too many instances where she could be sent to an isolation room for simply being tired or sick. That's not something I feel a 4 year old needs to deal with.
