Have you ever been promoted?
How did it happen? Did you ask for promotion and it was granted or did the management move you up because they felt you deserved it?

I asked for my promotion but I did so at my year end review and did a plan with my manager on how to achieve my goal by the next years review.

honestly- not since I left Macy's Corporate 4 years ago
I got promoted ALL the time there- they have career paths and plans- and they seem to like to promote people
since I left and went to the vendor side- I don't see anyone really getting promoted with out asking- like what I am going thru now

All promotions at my former job were advertised. eligible employees were able to submit resumes and have interviews.
Management didn't approach you, and if you were qualified and didn't want to be promoted, you didn't apply.

Yes. I am very fortunate that after 6 months at my current employer, I was promoted and given a raise. In a previous position, I was "promoted" in the sense that I acquired a much heavier work load with credentials, although not rewarded monitarily.

Yes. First I asked for. I was doing the job of my former superior for quite some time when she left & they did not replace her. They gave me the promotion and a nice raise in salary. Another time I got promoted after doing some MAJOR fix-it work on a new project. They approached me.

yes I have
I got promoted from customer service rep to supervisor, and then to manager (with a staff of 8). I hated it though! I felt like a glorified babysitter. I did it for 2 years and then found another job that I LOVED! that job completely changed my life and career path. best professional decision I ever made

Before I was promoted I thought long and hard about what position I wanted ot move up to and why. Then I scheduled a mtg w/ my boss to discuss my goals and aspirations for myself within the company and she helped me map out a game plan (such as learning the ropes of the position, training me on new things i'd have to learn, showing me how I should progress to get to the level I wanted). After her help, I was promoted about 5-6 months later.
