ETA: I put "white" in quotations because I am 25% Cuban, but it was because I was considered white.

me too.
I was told I was "too white to be here" in the Suffolk Community College Cafeteria. I was killing time before a summer class I was taking, and I guess I sat down on the wrong side of the room.  Whoopsies.

then, i have been over the fact that i'm white, a female and irish.

last week actually for the first time ever. I went into a card store in the neighborhood where I work. A man standing there decided to start telling his wife/girlfriend how white people shouldn't come into that particular store - and if they DID come in, they should be killed for being so stupid - and that "isn't racism it is common sense." He wasn't saying it to me - but I was the only white person in there and I was standing right next to him
I turned every shade of red . . . I just wanted a mother's day card!!!

I was born overseas and have an accent.
That never stopped me thought. I have confidence in myself and my abilities. Thankfully!!!!!

i went to a summer camp in michigan for the arts and there were people there from all over the US and all over the world.
one boy i became friendly w/ was from a small town near the finger lakes region of NY and had never met a Jewish person before.
When he found out I was Jewish, he stopped being my friend.

Not so much racism- but more ignorance. While traveling in Louisiana with Jewish teen tour, a grown woman asked to see my horns. She wasn't being mean- she honestly thought that all Jews had horns
I very politely explained where that concept came from.

At times because I am white and at times becasue I am Jewish. I've also heard some disparaging remarks about Jewish people--from people who didn't know that I am Jewish.

yes... several times because of being white...and once or twice (that I know of) I was told that they didn't like me because I was "white and took a good hispanic guy!" Ignorance! I hate it!

My sil and I went to cheesecake factory a few weeks ago, and a lady bumped into our table and she was like I'm sorry and i was like its ok... than she was like I'm sorry again looking at my sil and i guess she was having a bad day because she was like to her husband we got to go, and he was like what happened? and when she left my sil could have swore she heard her call us Whitetrash. Yes i wont forget that day.

I had a teacher tell us a similar story once...
We are going back a good 25-30 years when my teacher first went to College. When he met his room/dorm "mate" they were getting to know each other and he was from a very rural area of I forget which State...
My teacher, who is Jewish, and this boy were talking for about an hour before it came up naturally that my teacher was Jewish-- when the boy heard it he actually went up to my teacher and started examining his HEAD...
My teacher was like ?!?!  and the boy said "you said you were Jewish- I don't understand- where are your horns??" 
He really thought that all Jewish people had horns- and he wasn't even trying to be mean- where he grew up there were never any Jewish people, my teacher was the FIRST Jewish person this boy had ever seen!! And he had been told his whole life that all Jewish people have horns so he thought it was the truth!! 
I will NEVER forget that story-- My teacher told us that story in (I think) I was in 11th grade-- He was my HS Art teacher.

Honestly, I don't know where the "idea" that Jewish people have horns came from-- My teacher never explained that part to us...
To this day, I have NO clue where that originated-- maybe Shelly can explain... I'm actually curious.
And yeah, it's SO sad.

Because I was Catholic...I worked at a Jewish day camp and I was wearing a cross one day and this 11 year old came over to me....got in my face, grabbed the cross almost off my neck and said "you're Catholic" and I said "Yes" and he said "I HATE you"!I also heard other counselors and campers saying that I had a lot of nerve wearing a cross to a Jewish camp!
