Re: Have you ever loaned money to family?
Yes ... But I have a rule that I follow when lending ANYONE money.
Only lend money you can afford not to get back!
If I lend so much as $20 to someone I expect never to see it again. Same goes for large amounts. I've lent up to $3000k for a very close friend. He had paid some back and does a lot of work on our house to make up the difference.
I never expected to see a dime after I gave them the $.
If I have it and you need it you are welcome to it!

Re: Have you ever loaned money to family?
Yes, to help my younger brother get out of debt. It was $1600. He was supossed to pay me back over 1 year, but actually took 1 1/2 years. I had to ask him every month for the money. I could have given it to him as a gift but then he wouldn't learn a lesson. Just plan on it taking longer to get paid back, or even not getting paid back at all of you go through with it.

Re: Have you ever loaned money to family?
a few times to my SIL while she was in college. We're only talking a few hundred. I would have been ok if she never paid us back but she did eventually.
I would only loan money to a certain few people in my family (mine and DH's parents and our siblings and one aunt of mine). I know they would only ask me if they absolutely needed it. And they've all been there to help me out when I needed it.

No I would give it to them as a gift rather than lend it if I had it. It could become too complicated the other way.

Re: Have you ever loaned money to family?
unfourtunately its coming around lets say, but i will never do it again, unless for severe circumstances, im not missing the money so its ok, IMO if you need it back in your acct dont lend it out if you can live with out it for a while than thats better

Don't do it. In my experience, it never works out.
