Well this is no answer but I went as a guest when I was 12 with my neighbor as a mothers helper.. It was the summer of sam ... So freaky.. I did have the best time of my life.. We hung out all day at the beach then I would put the kids to bed and hang out with the grown ups!! Then when I was 15 my older sister rented a house with her friends for the summer in fire island!!!!! she took me and my friend for the weekend. WELLL!!!! That was the best time ever!!! Right in the heart of cherry valley.. when your 15 you have no idea how this was!! CRAZY!!! we went clubbing and everything!!

My daughter would NEVER get away with this !! Things are so different!!

Never did it, never saw the appeal.

I didn't grow up on LI though.

I think it was the summer I graduated from college that I first went to the Hamptons (CPI). Totally NOT my scene.

ETA: I did go to the Jersey Shore once for a week with my then college boyfriend and a bunch of other people. It was totally drama central.

I didn't officially rent but, I was down there for three summers with friends/hotels (one in Belmar, two in Manasquan). I was poor since I just moved into Hoboken.

We tended to frequent the bars in the town we lived in because my friend took so long to get ready, we couldn't get a cab anywhere!

I had an awesome time and made some great friends.

I was Snookin for love - in fact, the Sunday of Labor Day weekend in 2000, I met DH at the Osprey (he says it was at Leggets but, I don't remember meeting him there - just some of the people he was with).

We now go down every summer to LBI for a week.

I never rented but my best friend did and we would tag along often. Did the Hamptons when we were younger(and Hunter Mtn in the winter ) I was also a bartender so I was working a lot over the weekends..

Later on we did Fire Island-Ocean Bay Park mostly

Fire Island and Long Beach Island, New Jersey! Great!!!

Would never do it now. Fun for a night out, but I would prefer a clean bed, in a clean room without 10 other people in it!

I lived there, too, until recently so never rented one. I had a few friends who did rent in share houses and would hang out with them. That was fun but I was glad to go home most nights!
