Having a really hard time re: weight gain

So, I am only 10.5 weeks... but, I have been so tired and feel like totally hungover every day-- I have not been eating as healthy as I normally do (not that I am eating THAT bad, just not normal for me and mostly carbs), and I have not been working out. I also let myself indulge where I normally wouldn't-- another thing I do when I am hungover.

As a result-- I feel like a total fat f*ck and I weighed myself this morning, and I gained like 5 lbs already. I feel DISGUSTING. And I am having a hard time getting dressed and in general, feeling good about myself.

I am feeling a lot better this week, and have started to resume my healthier diet. I also made a promise to myself that I will start working out again this week too-- although, it has yet to happen but it is only Wed. But, I want to exercise througout the whole pregnancy-- I know it's best and I enjoy working out.

I really hope I feel better about myself soon-- and I know weight gain is inevitable-- but, not this kind of weight. I am just feeling so ick.

Re: Having a really hard time re: weight gain

I am feeling the same exact way. It doesn't help me that I gained about 10 lbs during my last pregnancy (miscarriage) that I haven't lost. Between that and the bloating (I'm 7 weeks), I feel like a whale. Chat Icon

I am feeling you on the exhaustion too. I did join a pre-natal swim class though for exercise. It's only 1 day a week, but it's a start! It's actually an enjoyable form of exercise and I met a lot of really nice moms-to-be.

Hang in there - the 1st trimester is supposed to be the worst with the exhaustion and I hope you're feeling like yourself soon. Chat Icon

Re: Having a really hard time re: weight gain

i kinda have a different outlook on this...i like working out too and i love the way that i feel afterwards, but right now i'm more concerned about what i'm most comfortable with. i used to eat healthy and loved the way my body looked after a new diet, but now a days, i eat whatever i want, whenever i want because that's what the baby wants. i wouldn't want the baby to be deprived of anything because i was more concerned about me and how i feel. i'm gonna feel like a little piggie for 9 months, i might as well get used to it, ya know? I'm the same exact way! I've always been obsessed with my weight and put on 5 pounds immediately from quitting smoking, and then yesterday at my 16 week appt I'm up total 7 pounds! Its so hard to see the numbers going up...I'm just really nervous about how hard its going to be to lose it afterwards....but I know its all for a good cause!!!

Re: Having a really hard time re: weight gain

Please try not to stress about it. I also gained a lot of weight the first trimester from eating mostly carbs, and a lot of then. I normally eat very healthy and work out a lot, but in the first trimester I felt sick if I didn't eat, and the only thing I could eat was carbs. I also haven't been exercising as much because I'm scared to get my heartrate up as high as I used to. I gained 12lbs by 15 weeks, and have now slowed down a bit because I'm able to eat healthy again, although I'm still hungry all the time and therefore eating much more than usual. I'm 19 weeks and up 15 lbs!!! I also don't have much of a belly yet. I mean, it's definitely bigger because my stomach was totally flat before, but most of the weight seems to be in my boobs, butt and thighs. I'm just generally thicker. It gets me down sometimes, but I realize every body is different during pregnancy and if you are generally healthy, your body will do what it needs to do and you will lose it after!!

Re: Having a really hard time re: weight gain

i feel the same way as you. I am almost 8 weeks and have gained 5lbs already.

I am eating totally different than I'm used to. I am eating more and more often.

I am trying to listen to my body and its needs and wants and not worry so much about becoming a fat a$$. I am just trying to enjoy my pregnancy

I will tell you this though- all of my friends are enjoying every second of me gaining weight. They cant wait. I am on the thinner side and i am pretty obsessed with my weight so this is making them all happy to see me put on some 'real weight'

Right Christina? :)

Re: Having a really hard time re: weight gain

at least I am not the only one!

I know 5lbs is not a lot-- but when I have 30 more weeks to go it is!

I think once I get my exercise routine back, I will feel a lot better.

Totally going to work out tonight! I just gots to!

Re: Having a really hard time re: weight gain

The first trimester you should be taking in alot of carbs.. the baby needs. Dont get so down on yourself. You will platow.. and wont gain as much. Dont put all your focus on the negative aspect.. remember your body is doing what it needs to do for that baby. Once you give birth, and things settle down with the baby youll be able to work it off.

I gained 35 lbs with my dd, with breastfeeding it all shedded pretty quickly.

Im sure you look great! Chat Icon
