Having BOCES review your transcript
Has anyone had BOCES look at your transcript and tell you what courses you need for an additional certification? If so, how would I go about doing this? TIA

Re: Having BOCES review your transcript
I did this 10 years ago. I contacted the people from BOCES and they directed me to the right place.

Re: Having BOCES review your transcript
I went through it two years ago. You need to file on the Teach website for the certification you want and check off that you'll have BOCES review them. Then you need to mail or drop off official transcripts from every school you've attended (even if it was just one summer course) to the BOCES that covers your mailing address, along with a check for BOCES ( I believe it was 25 dollars).
So basically here's what I did step by step:
1. I applied on TEACH for addidtional certifications. In my case, professional English Langauge Arts 7-12 AND Italian 7-12 and checked off "Have my transcripts be evaluated by BOCES"
2. I got official transcripts from each school
3. I brought it all to BOCES. In my case it was the Western Suffolk BOCES. The woman in charge of evaluating the transcripts is named Pat Mastrodomenico and she was REALLY good, really knew her stuff.
4. Paid 25 dollars to BOCES in addition to the $100 dollars to file for each certification.
Once I did this, my Italian certification was evalated and granted in a few weeks, but I got a letter saying I was actually 3 credits short for ELA b/c NYS has all sorts of rules about the amount of credits that can count. Pat suggested I take a CLEP test, which I did and passed it, so my ELA certification went through once I brought the proof of my passing back to her.
Hope that helped!
