Having to change EI speech therapist due to her very unprofessional manner .....
1st of im so upset by everything now having to change after 4 weeks of therapy ....and knowing in my gut it wasnt right and not doing something sooner ....
she has made DS cry by her very forceful manner and not doing some of the main areas of concern .....
her phone is always going off during sessions she is late every time sometimes sitting in front of my house on her phone ....
coming in saying she has just left the gym to then NEVER WASH HER HANDS prompt therapy is ment to be done on DS
she sits and complains about things while with my son
and then today cancels
i feel terrible because DS actually gets upset when he sees her car pull up and i just thought he was being a difficault 2 yr old ...not liking being challenged ...
but after speaking to our coordinator all of this has been unexceptable behaviour on her part ..
i feel like we have wasted 4 weeks of therapy due to her lapse work ethic ...hey this is very important to our sons development and she has obviously not thought the same
i wish i had done something sooner
i will always trust my gut and my sons insecurates in people from now on .....
our new therapist should start next week

Oh.My.G. VERY unprofessional.
Don't look at it as a waste of time- anything is better tha NOTHING (although I know thats a stretch consdering what you described). Also- kudos to you for recognizing this was a poor fit and then doing something about it. You were right to wait and see if things would improve.
I hope your next therapist is amazing and your DS sees quick results!

wow, i'm sorry to hear this happened but glad you took care of things. BTW, as an SLP, when PROMPT is done, or any work where she is touching your child's face or in his mouth, gloves should be worn for universal precautions.

I agree not to look at it as wasted time - look at it as you pushing for your son to get the help he needs from an incompetent professional - and when it didn't happen you did something about it.
Way to go Mom!!!

Don't feel bad! We went through something similar but it wasen't at home so it and we thought she was all our insurance would pay for. Luckily I jumped through hoops and found an amazing place and instantly saw awesome results! (I'm in florida so I can't recommend)
All the best

TOT, but when I took the PROMPT course, they recommended that gloves NOT be worn. It made everyone and a few people spoke up to ask for clarification, but the instructor said that when PROMPTing, gloves are NOT to be worn.

Re: Having to change EI speech therapist due to her very unprofessional manner .....
I had issues with one of my DD's therapists...
She did a good job but would cancel constantly...She would NEVER reschedule the sessions. When I finally complained I found out that she was putting in for the sessions as if she rescheduled them so she was getting paid for them. I inadvertantly got her in trouble....
Oh Well....
We promptly switched therapists after that....

when we had the evaluation done the woman washed her hands but didnt put on gloves .... iwas ok with this as i watched her wash up before even going near DS ...
and he had no problem with her touching him!
and his therapist after 4 weeks couldnt get near him

It totally sucks that your DS had to deal with that "therapist," but I am so glad that you quickly got a replacement!! Many positive vibes for the next one!

Re: Having to change EI speech therapist due to her very unprofessional manner .....
I'm so sorry that you had to go through this. I'm also trained in PROMPT and we were told not to use gloves. However, if your SLP does any oral motor exercises, then gloves should be worn.
Good luck with your new therapist!!!!!!

i have let our coordinator know is there someone else i should contact ??? YES!!! The coordinator won't do anything in terms of discipline or talking to the therapist. Contact the agency your therapist is from, and ask to speak to the director (the SLP's boss!)
