HCG levels - thoughts? Update #2

need some help, calming down here...

I got my HCG tested last friday - my HCG was 43 (point something). I got it done again today and it's at 73 (point something) and my progesterone also went up.

my doctor's office said that they look to increase 60%, and i'm just on the boarderline, so I have to go back wednesday for more BW.

I'm really upset because I feel like this is going to turn into a miscarriage...Does anyone have any thoughts?

TIA

update 5/2: my levels went up, but are still "lagging". My progesterone is still good (but i'm on Crinone, so that makes sense to me). They want me to come in for a sonogram tomorrow. Not sure what they will see - maybe just position at this point? so...the saga continues....

Update 5/3: The doctor said that based on dating it's probably too early to see anything anyway, but that they were looking to see if there was anything "alarming"...there wasnt; so that's good news. She did think that she saw "something", but it was just too early to tell...more bloodwork tomorrow and probably more sonograms too in the upcoming week.

I had a little talk with the little "bean" today - to him/her to get a move on things!!! please continue to keep your fingers crossed!!

Re: HCG levels - thoughts?

I wouldn't read too much into the HCG levels right away. When I first got pregnant, my HCG level rose but did not double, and I was freaking out. The RE had me come in for a 3rd beta, again, it rose but didn't double.... I am now 24 weeks with a Chat Icon Good luck!

Re: HCG levels - thoughts?

thank you! that helps

I think it's almost worse to have to go through this monitoring. When I was pregnant with DD I did one home test and went to my OB 8 weeks later - never thought twice about levels! this is enough to drive you mad!!

congrats on your baby boy!

you are definitely right on that, someone said the same exact thing to me, that all the testing ends up worrying you more!! I finally felt better at my first sono. Thanks and good luck!

Re: HCG levels - thoughts?

I just spoke to the nurse again...I asked that in her experience, could this turn out ok. Her response was that while it's possible, it's highly unlikely and she doesnt believe that my levels will rise to where they need to be, but that there is always a little room for optimism.

she was kinda b*tchy about it too; very cold; which is not something that I have experienced in this office. I could of course be saying that because she wasnt telling me what I wanted to hear.

so upset...

well i think the concern is that your first beta was friday and your next was today. it should double in 48 hours. but yours didnt double in 72 hours. if they take it again on wednesday and it does double that's ok i think you just need more info. the nurse shouldn't be predicting anything either way. good luck!!

Unless she is a psychic and can predict the future, she has no idea what can happen... Everyone is different and every pregnancy is different.

My first beta at 14dpiui was 65 and it was 117 48 hours later. That's about a 60% rise as well and I was freaking out. I went in for a 3rd beta 48 hours later and had a 94% rise. I am 7w4d pregnant and we saw a very strong heartbeat last week at 132bpm.

Hang in there and don't psych yourself out! Chat Icon

Re: HCG levels - thoughts?

thanks again. my doctor actually called me last night (at 9:15pm!); he basically said the same thing as the nurses did - that my levels arent where they want them to be. I kept hearing words like unlikely, uncommon...so i'm not exactly feeling hopeful. He was however pleased with the fact that the egg and sperm met...so I guess that's positive.

he also mentioned something about an eptopic pregnancy; everything is blur to me right now so i'm not sure if he thinks that it could be, its an option or what.

We've been TTC DC#2 for 15 months, this is the first time we've gotten a positive pregnancy test...and this is what i'm dealing with. Kinda feel like the universe is giving me BOTH middle fingers...

anyway...trying to stay positive, but having a hard time.

thanks for all your responses...

and congrats on the twins!! :)

Re: HCG levels - thoughts?

I am measuring at 5 weeks and 3 days, My doctor told me that there was a chance I was going to miscarry, My Beta #s' were going up but not dubbing.

Went to the dr yesterday and saw the heart beat! My doctor was not to concerned about the #s now, because we saw a heart beat.

Just try to stay calm, I know it's hard- time will tell
