Heartbeat & question about ultrascreen
I went to my first appointment with my midwife today & we heard the heartbeat! I'm so relieved! I'm a little over 10 weeks & due around April 2nd. I have a sono next week as well (I'll be around 11 weeks) so we'll get to see the little one for the first time!
I also have a question about the Nuchal Transluency test. My midwife gave me a prescription for it. I called to make an appointment & was told they take my insurance, but the lab doesn't so I would have to pay for the bloodwork out of pocket. It wasn't too expensive, but I'm not sure it's worth it. I'm having trouble finding another place that does the test & takes my insurance. So now I'm wondering if maybe I should just pass up taking the test? I'm only 21 so my risk of DS is pretty low to begin with so I'm not overly worried. Has anyone else skipped this test?

Re: Heartbeat & question about ultrascreen
I am also followed by a midwife. We elected to NOT do the AFP or neuchal translucency. I had 1 sono around 12 weeks because of a bleeding and cramping episode. OTher than that the only other sono we are having is at 20 weeks, an anatomy scan, not a full level II and that was our request.
I would do research about the AFP screening test and make a decision with your DH based on what you are comfortable with.
