Heartbeat Question
I know it is considered an old wives tale, but how many of you that know what you are having believe that there is any truth to girls having a faster heartbeat and/or boys having a slower one??
TIA

Re: Heartbeat Question
my doctor did a study in college where they took 2000 women and tossed coins heads or tails...and then compared the heartbeats. He said the coins were more correct than the hb's.....I don't believe any of it! :)

Re: Heartbeat Question
I believe the heart beat I have a boy and a girl and it held true for them and now according to the heartbeat the baby should be a girl so I will find out in 10 days if thats right.. I know also with my aunt and SIL it was accurate..it might be a old wives tale but I believe it

Re: Heartbeat Question
I don't buy it. At 7 weeks, the heartrate was 142 and at 13 weeks, the heartrate was 162. The heartrate can vary a lot depending on how far along you are.

Re: Heartbeat Question
I just have a gut feeling that I am having a boy and although there is probably no truth to the the HB thing I will say that my baby's HB has been between 134 and 145bpm since the beginning and I am now 27 weeks. I will know if my instinct was right in 13 more weeks..........can't wait!!!!

Re: Heartbeat Question
from what i've read: 140's or lower could be either but typically above 150 is a girl
what i mean is that the ones that were "wrong" were girls with slower heart rates
i havent heard anyone say it was 160 or 170 and a boy
KWIM??

I believe this, and it has proven correct both times for me.
With DD, the hb was always in the 160's. With this baby, , 140-150's.

Re: Heartbeat Question
i dont know about the old wives tale, but i'll figure out in a few weeks...according to it, i should be having a at 8 weeks: 154 bpm at 9 weeks: 175 bpm at 13 weeks: 150 bpm
i know the hb reaches a high # depending on your week, but it does slow down

Re: Heartbeat Question
There is no truth to it according to my doctor...
Also as a baby grows, the heartbeat slows a bit...DS always was higher, around 160's/170's.
I honestly believe it to be a complete old wives tale, but its still fun to guess based on them!

I think 100% bs. The twins both started out in 160/170's. And both are boys!

I agree. One of my babies was 182 at 8 weeks! Now at 14 weeks s/he is at a steady 155. The other baby was 167 at 8 weeks. The other baby fluctuates between 140 and 150. My assumptions on gender are based more on behavior. Baby B is a jumping bean and Baby A is lazy and mellow.
My Dr told me the HR stabilizes after 12 weeks so that is probably the time to judge if you want to go by that theory.

Re: Heartbeat Question
Every time I went to the doctor, the baby's heartbeat was 160, which is considered high...according to the wives tale...we would be having a girl...but my baby has a penis!!!
Everytime I asked the doctor what the heartbeat meant he said 50/50 odds on boy or girl! Basically, the wives tale is crap!!!
