Help - DD still needs to be rocked to sleep
At night she goes down no problem. Even if she's still awake when I put her in her crib, she'll put herself to sleep within a few minutes. But for naps, she has to be rocked to sleep. Not only does she have to be rocked, but we also have to hum her to sleep (something I tried out of desperation when she was colic, which worked, but 6 months later still has to be done). If I try putting her down awake, she'll squirm around in her crib for a while, babble to herself, and then eventually start hysterically crying. It doesn't matter how tired she is, she just will not put herself down for a nap. How do I get her to go down on her own? Btw, DD is 6 months next week.

If she's almost six months I'd consider the Ferber method. I never did it - I always did full on CIO - but if she already sleeps well at night, I don't think you need to. Just go in at increasing intervals, 3, 5, 7 minutes etc. and shush and rub her back. She will still cry of course, but she should learn to put herself to sleep.

Re: Help - DD still needs to be rocked to sleep
Our first DD needed to be rocked to sleep for naps and at night. she grew out of it by 11months on her own. since your dd is doing it at night you have a better shot than me! maybe try to mimick her night routine. make the room as dark as possible. do you have blackout curtains? put on sound machine and try it again. good luck:)

Re: Help - DD still needs to be rocked to sleep
I'm going to try these things. We work FT so MIL has DD during the week and she doesn't really nap there too much. But for us she naps 4 times a day. Weekends we're kind of in and out and she'll nap anywhere, but when we're home I'm going to try harder to let her do it on her own. Maybe I'll put her lullaby machine on and see if that helps because I do put it on at night for her. And I'll read up on the Ferber method. Thanks ladies!
