How to get your infant to sleep without being rocked?

I feel like I've created a monster Chat Icon DS is a daycare baby and is in a wonderful routine M-F. This past weekend he has been sick (we all have) and any routine he has had has gone down the gutter.

He hasn't napped well the last couple of days partially because I babied him and he expects me to lie down with him to fall asleep Chat Icon Chat Icon

He is due for a nap and exhausted so I just put him down in his crib to sleep and he is of course crying his eyes out. Is there any other way? We used to rock him to sleep but I am beginning to think he needs to start learning to nap when he is put down in the crib Chat Icon

try rocking him to drowsy put him down, and if he cries, pick him up, rock to drowsy and repeat...

this worked for DS, it took about an hour or two, for a few nights, but it worked ...

I'm glad it worked.

Start a nap and bedtime routine, and it will get even easier.

I did something similar as the pp mentioned except I never got her out of the crib. I would rock her for about 2-3min, lay her down, say have a good nap, turn Violet on her bedtime music and walk out. I let her cry for 2-3 min unless she was wailing, and normally she was asleep by then, but if not I went in tickled her face adn rubbed her head while saying I love you and it's nap time I'm here. I didn't get her out of the crib. She is an excellent napper and bed time sleeper. She goes into the crib awake, plays, and is out on her own. Plus if she wakes up in the night she can get herself back to sleep. The only time we inturupt this is when she has a horrible cough. Then we rock her to sleep.

We have had a bedtime routine forever but he is nursed/rocked to sleep Chat Icon This has always worked for us so I am going to keep this up until we stop nursing. He automatically falls asleep when nursing so I can't really prevent that. It's the napping that is sometimes the issue. I am so sad to even think of letting this go... Chat Icon

How old is he? We rocked DD to sleep for a long time, I loved it. She stopped wanting to always be rocked around 9 months and would rather me just put her down in the crib. Since she's about 1 she goes down at night no problem (bottle, brush teeth, into the crib). MIL still rocks her for naps though sometimes (she won't let her cry).

ETA: My point i basically to enjoy it now. Chat Icon I miss it.

Re: How to get your infant to sleep without being rocked?

I had the same issue with my DS. I put him in drowsy now too. I ask him if he's tired she says ehhhh like in a sad way. Then I give him in the pacifier and like a warning for a few mins before night night in the crib, over and over every few mins so he knows the crib is coming! For bedtime I start like an hour before lol. Then I put him in with his pacifier and blankets and now I just started putting Mickey Mouse in there too. I saw look its night night time, Mickey Mouse is sleeping too. That helped.
