HELP! 4 1/2 month old waking 5-6 times a night! LONG--sorry

I don't know what is going on with my DD. She is BF and FF. Recently she has been getting more formula as I go back to work next week and will only be BF in the AM and PM (not pumping at work). She has been getting this formula Gentelease LIPIL sice 6 weeks, but now is getting more oz. she seems so gassy and is waking up so fussy!! If I go in I end up BF her but I don't know if she is hungry but it is the only way I can get her back to sleep. She used to be so good about going to sleep drowsy in her crib, now putting her to bed is a 1 hour ordeal with her continuously waking for her paci or to eat.

I am beside myself as I go back on Wed and need to be up at 5am and don't know how I can do this many night wakings and working Chat Icon

My DH has offered to help but she is not so good at taking a bottle in the middle of the night and I am up anyway when I hear her...

Sorry so long but any suggestions??

Should I switch her to soy or
nutramagin
(sp?)

I would talk to your doctor about switching formula but is it possible she's teething?

Maybe you could try giving her Mylicon at night. Is she stays sleeping it's probably gas but if she still gets up maybe it's something else. Just a thought. Good luck Chat Icon

My dr. said I could switch, but he said there is no real way to tell if she is bothered by the formula. I feel like if I switch it may not be a good idea since I will be working and she will be starting with babysitting, so I won't be able to watch for a reaction.

I don't know if it is teething. I don't feel any teeth coming in on her gums, would I feel that if she was?

I am just discouraged, b/c I feel like other babies are sleeping so much longer than her, and I don't know if we are doing something wrong or if she is in pain Chat Icon

My son started going through something similar at 4 months. He was teething. Although you couldn't see or feel it, they were coming up under the skin. It finally broke through when he was 5 and a half months old.

If you daughter isn't on cereal yet, you may want to try it. I started giving my son cereal at night before he went to bed.

my first guess is teething...

my back-up guess is....
if your baby is writihing in the crib and wiggling around, she could have gas.... generally bottle feeding has them gulping down much more air than BFing... Try burping much longer and more frequently. If it's due to the bottle and not the formula, she should behave the same whether she's bottle fed breastmilk or formula....

I'm thinking a growth spurt. I found this in a search about growth spurts:

You are not doing anything wrong. Every baby is different. My son was waking up every 3 hours until 7-8 months old. My DD was sleeping through the night by 6 weeks. I did the same thing with the both. If she seems fussy or gassy and your ped already said you can swtich formula's, you may want to try Nutramigen. Both of my kids wee on it and IMO it's the miracle formula. PLUS, your insurance may cover the Nutramigen. It can't hurt to try. I get my cans delivered monthy..if you want to try it without spending the money, let me know and I will send you a can!
