help, first real fever
DS was coughing this am so I had a feeling he was coming down with something.
got a call at 430 from daycare that he slept for 2.5 hours (unheard of for him) and he was warm when he woke. they took his temp and it was 102.3
i picked him up. his face is RED. cheeks are on fire. when i got him, i took it again and its 103.2. I gave him tylenol and put on his pjs and he is content watched nick jr now, kinda in a fog.
my freaking Ped is NOT answering! I've been calling for an hour and it just rings (seaford pediatrics)...
i dont know what to do, what can i do?

Sooo annoying about your Ped! I would just keep him comfy and keep him on the Tylenol until you get any other instructions from the Dr. (whenever they answer ).
I hope he feels better soon

How old is your DC?
If he's over 6 mo. a fever over 103, I always give motrin. Wait 4 hours from the time you gave him tylenol and give him a dose of motrin. Works much better. Also, no layers. Put on light cotton pj's with no feet.

Def. get Motrin. If it stays high, you'll need to alternate between Tylenol and Motrin!
Not much else you can do. Maybe a cool bath?

exactly! Give him the motrin next, that will help to bring the fever down.

I wouldn't do a cool bath - too many kids on here have had febrile seizures when they were put in the bath.
I usually take a lukewarm washcloth and rub it on their forehead, arms, legs, belly, and that seems to help!

I agree...if you want a bath I would do a tepid/warm bath not hot and not cool...they're body temps will go down too quickly and it's dangerous

Wow I never knew that! Scary! Thank goodness for this site!
Just read about no water so bath is obviously not an option anyway! Feel better Jack!

Poor Jack!
We have weathered a few fevers here. All you can do is give either Tylenol every four hours, or I prefer motrin every 6 hours. The dose is 1.25ml I believe for 6-12 months. You can give it at hour four. Just watch his fever and let him sleep. If he sweats, just change his PJs. Cuddle him too. My ped said under 104 to treat with Motrin or Tylenol.

Yes, my ped said the same thing-no cool bath, no alcohol bath-risk of febrile seizures.

Re: help, first real fever
We got the same call last week from Gregory's daycare. Fever broke within 24 hours with the tylenol and motrin (alternating) but he looked awful...had a double ear infection.
I hope that Jack's fever goes down and he feels better soon!
