Re: Help!! Fleas!!

I went to the vet, they gave me stuff to put on our dog and had to bath him and clean the house. O and we got a pill for him.
We had to repeat this for one more month and he was fine.
This is the season when they get them.

Re: Help!! Fleas!!

Get to the vet asap. There are a few different things you can do but do NOT use flea baths. They do not work and can be harmful. You can use a flea comb and comb over your dog, esp where you see them and then quickly dip the comb into a clear container full of water and dawn dishwashing detergent. Swish it around and the flea will drown.

But you must get your dog onto a flea med asap or your fleas will be a huge problem.

Re: Help!! Fleas!!

Just thinking...maybe he had fleas when you posted back a few weeks ago, about his red skin?

you def need to see a vet to see what they want you to do to take care of the fleas asap

Re: Help!! Fleas!!

Thanks ladies!
No, when we went to the vet last time he didn't have ONE single flea on him...I actually had them check LOL.
The reason for the skin being red and all that was he was bit by something... his ankle was swallen, he wasn't eating or drinking. We gave him some electrolights with water throu a syringe, and benagryl and he was fine 2 days later.
I'll get to a vet asap to get rid of these flieas...the are gross. I never had fleas in my house...yuck!!

They are hard to get rid of if you don't move QUICKLY. Rush to the vet.

Agreed. Also, you may need to bomb the house. Ask the vet about a product that will work for you and your family.

ITA! You can never be too careful - especially with a baby in the house too! Good luck!

Re: Help!! Fleas!!

bath him in blue dawn, its gentle and gets them all off. the flea dips are actually a chemical that isn't good for them

after they are dry use the flea drops (monthly ones) we have used the expensive vetra ones from our vet and frontline, and haven't noticed a difference so I'd say go with frontline to save some $$

find the source!! you will not get rid of them until you trat the source. they may be in your yard, unless you dog went some place and picked them up

walk your house with white socks on and see if little black specks jump on your socks. if so, call an exterminator you have them in your home and your house needs to be treated.

Any bedding the dog may have slept on should be washed in hot water.

Fleas are a total PIA, I just got rid of them, but to takes a while

a flea bite is itchy for 15 days on a dog!! so try not the bathe him to much

Re: Help!! Fleas!!

I also just found out from my vet that you can give the monthly flea treatments every 3 weeks during an outbreak or during high infestation season, just not all year round.
