Help for my sister please!!! Two year old BIG BOY BED TRANSITION!!
My poor sister is exhausted.. Her two year old boy climbed out of the crib and she has transitioned him to the big boy bed... however.. he wants mommy to stay with him unitl he falls asleep which is now 12:00am!!
What did you do to help transition to the big boy bed?? remember he can get out of his room on his own.

She can put a gate at his door OR she needs to just keep putting him back in his bed..
he WILL keep getting out but trust me when I tell you that so long as she sticks to her guns and continues, without conversation, no sip of water, no toys, no more than 1 bathroom trip, etc., keeps putting him back in, he will get the point that he needs to be in his bed... she needs to just be silent and pick him up and take him...
BTW, she could have gotten him a crib tent when he climbed out. That would have helped keep him in too!

we put a gate at the door. I never did this with dd and was very nervous about doing it with ds but it has been about 2 months and he actually asks us to put the gate up when we put him to bed.

I also use a gate just outside of his door. If he open the door and calls us, I go upstairs and tell him to go back to bed and shut the door. He can't leave his room because of the gate.

We did the stoplight method with DD1. We made a little stop light out of felt and she could get me to come back to the room 3 times....once she put the red light in place then 'game over' if you will.
It took everything I and DH had in us not to go back in once the red light was in place but we had to stick to our guns... other wise the stop light loses its meaning and effectiveness.
Best thing to do is be consistent!!
Hope your sister has quick success with getting her DS to stay in his bed!!
ETA...we had the gate up so DD would call us from the gate and we had the stoplight on the door by the gate so we never really went IN the room....
