Help! How potty training sensory kid??
I have tried so hard and it seems DS doesn't even wanna try the potty or toilet. Every time I take away his diaper he will either not go or wet his undertpants and along with fear or cry...etc. Anything special/any good link I can try with sensory kid like him? Will any therapist cover this topics?
Thanks for any advice in advance ^_^

Re: Help! How potty training sensory kid??
I would ask for assistance if you have a SEIT or ABA therapy.
DS was totally uninterested though I think he probably was ready physically for awhile, he just didn't want to do it. Then a little boy he admired (and was kind of competitive with) started wearing underwear, and that was what did it for us.
He's not 100% trained--still wears a diaper at night and has poop accidents regularly, but pee he has very few accidents while awake. He's going to be 4 in December if that helps. I think his issues with this were less sensory based and more control issues or disinterest in change.

Can you elaborate onhow your childs sensory processing delays are interfering with potty training? What areas of sensory processing does you child experience difficulty with? What services does he get?

Re: Help! How potty training sensory kid??
Thanks for the advice and DS loves lots of movement, heavy work and vibrators(even the tooth brush). He also has difficulty with all kinds of transitionings. Always try to escape from any activities...etc and ignore when people walking to him. Also difficulty in trying different texture food and easily throw ups...etc. That's why he hate and scared of potty training at the same time...LOL
Anybody has the same experience?

Re: Help! How potty training sensory kid??
Well, the oral sensitvity shouldnt be affecting pooty training. It sounds like he is a sensory seeker and you are providing him with lots of great sensory input. Does he have a hard time with demands being place on him? Does he recognize when he is wet or dirty? Can he hold his urine? Will he enter the bathroom? Will he sit on the toilet and playwith a toy or read a book? Are they addressing toileting in school if he attends a program?

I forgot to add Do you use a picture schedule to help with transitions? Show a photo of your bathroom prior to going to the bathroom so he knows what to expect.
