Help... I wanna start working out/ running but need advice
I had a baby 8 weeks ago and I am SO ready to lose all this extra weight. I am 5'1 I do not consider myself to be heavy however I am 150 pounds and it's all in my belly. I want to lose a good 25 pounds ASAP and I'm finally ready to do it. But where do I begin?? I have 2 children, work full time and my hubby has a pretty busy schedule so my options are not many as far as joining a gym. (more of a self concience issue there). So I am just looking to see what you other mommies are doing to feel good about yourself.

90% of weight loss is your diet so I would start there.
My DS is 12 weeks and I have 4 llbs of baby weight left. I have done very little exercise. I have been crazy strict with what i eat though. I added in walking and I take DS whenever its nice out and I walk from Penn to work instead of taking the subway. I would start slow with exercise though

Totally agree. Working out is great for health and fitness but the biggest factor in weight loss is diet. I'm not saying don't exercise by any means but you can run from here to California and see no results if diet is an issue!

Re: Help... I wanna start working out/ running but need advice
I think the best way to start is to keep a food diary. Write down everything you eat including portion sizes. It is really helpful to see what you are eating before you decide to make a change. I would suggest keeping track of your macronutrients (you can use an app like my fitness pal). Start by making small changes cut out soda, added sugar, gravies/sauces, etc.
As for exercise start slow. The couch to 5K program may interest you if your goal is to start running. I think a combination of cardio and weight training in addition to a healthy diet is the best way to lose weight and build lean muscle. You do not need a gym membership to get fit.

Re: Help... I wanna start working out/ running but need advice
I have a similar issue as far as working FT and DH having a busy schedule. Is your DH home on the weekends? I try to work out 4 times a week...Saturday and Sunday DH stays with DD while I run, Tuesdays and Thursdays I try to be on my treadmill (although you could do a DVD if you don't have any exercise equipment) by 5:00am so I can get in a workout before work. I don't know what your work schedule is like, but you could look for an inexpensive double jogging stroller and walk/jog with your kids after work.

Re: running/walking---have you considered a walk/run stroller? It may be difficult to find one that is the right size for both your kids but it would be great to be able to run/walk with them in the neighborhood!

I would start with diet for sure! Walking on your lunch break, are you able to get out for a walk? And walk with the kids on the weekends. DVD to do at might once kids go to sleep. Insanity is a good one. Or the Jillian Michaels DVDs. Good luck!

I lost about 60 pounds this is what I did...
Eating: I was more aware of what I ate and drank. I tried to avoid eating the shit processed "fast" food that makes our lives a little easier. So when I cooked dinner it was something healthy. I'm a big sautee girl - throw veggies in a pan with a SMALL amount of EVOO and some protein like chicken, fish or beef and voila!
Portion size was a HUGE thing. I was eating WAY too much!
Drank more water. I'm terrible when it comes to drinking water, I just don't think about it but again, when I started to become more aware of what I was putting in my body the easier it got.
As for the running, I started REALLY small. I actually didn't even start with running. I went to the local high school track and walked. Four laps around equals a mile. I plugged myself into my iPod and I let her rip! The first day I tried to run ONE LAP. I thought I would DIE. So four laps - WALKED.
That got easier, so I upped it to running one lap and walking anther lap or two. When that got easier I added another lap of running. If I couldn't do the whole lap I ran on the curves and walked the straight aways or visa versa.
Eventually I got to the point of running five miles a day. I even ran a 5K.
Now I play sports three nights a week instead of running but when I need that solace and time to myself, I go running.
Think of this as something you have no choice but to do. It's for YOU. It's for your HEALTH. If you were sick, you'd do what you needed to do to get well. Well, this is the same thing!
With the weather being nice, bring the kids with you to the track, they can play on the football field while you walk. Or if they're really little, put em in the stroller and walk with them.
Just remember, where there's a will there's a way!
