Need Advice - If everything is in working order?
We moved into our home this past Oct. Everything is in working order such as CAC, Boiler, etc..., but I know for a fact that they are not energy efficient and this is driving me nuts!!!
I am in the process of converting from Oil to Gas, so that is almost a done deal but now that the summer is here and the CAC is turned on, I am thinking replace the unit now before the electric bill gives me a mini heart attack! I am not sure how efficient that is running and my guess is to have someone come in and look at the unit, but then another part of me is thinking wait to see what the electric bill looks like first and go from there, maybe it's something we can put off till next year.
The more I do in the house, the more people tell me to stop doing everything at once and take our time, "if it's not broke, don't fix it", etc...
What do you guys think?

when we first moved in, we had Sears come and look at our central air unit. I think it cost us $80 and it was worth it. We were told that our unit is in great shape and will last for years (we didnt know how old the unit was...the old owners didnt live her for more than a year and didnt know much about the house!! )

I would wait and see how your electric bill looks because they can run from $4000 up to $8000 for the units depending on size you need. It depends on how old the unit is too. They normally last 10 - 15 years if it is maintained and serviced every year. Also find a comfortable temp to put it on. I keep my CAC at 76 - 78 so I would try to see if a set temp works for you with the electric bill.
But if you feel you need someone to come look at it by all means do it just to have a piece of mind.

I wouldn't assume the CAC is not energy efficient.
I would wait and get an electric bill or two and see where you stand.
You can also have an electrician come in and meter the CAC compressor and air handler so you can see exactly how much electric it uses.
