HELP!! Internet Service Provider Question
DH and I just bought a new desk top. We would like to get internet service...I called cablevision about Optimum Online and made the mistake of saying that we have cable provided by the landlord. Apprently, this isn't legal. The cablevision guy said that if we have our own entrance and bathroom then we should have the cable in our own name.
I don't want to pay for cable that I am already getting for free. He said that I should talk to the landlord about having $$$ taken off of our rent if we pay our own cable.
I doubt this will happen because it doesn't cost her anything to provide the cable for us.
If the cablevision tech comes to our house and sees that we do not have our own cable, we will have to sign up in our name (so says the cablevision call center guy).
So, what are other ways to get internet access?
Any advice? (We don't have a phone line either, btw- we both use our cell phones)

Re: HELP!! Internet Service Provider Question
Verizon has high-speed internet. You don't have to have a phone line for it, I don't think...

Re: HELP!! Internet Service Provider Question
Cablevision will cut the wires if they find out you're sharing the connection. Our house is designed as a two-family house, with two kitchens, but we are the only ones in the house. However, the tech said that two kitchens = two families, so he cut the wire, and only "let" us have the connection on the 1st floor! (Needless to say, I reran the wires after he left, and left Cablevision soon after that.... )
High-speed is essentially Cable or FiOS. DSL over a phone cable is mid-range in speed. Satellite is an option, but very $$$
Verizon should be able to run a fiber cable to your apt without giving you a phone connection, just Internet.
Get a wireless card, and tap into a neighbor's connection... (just kidding about that one....)
