Help me decide.. gymnastics or Dance for 3 year old
Dd will be three in September and I want to enroll her in dance or gymnastics. The thing is at this age all the gymnastics classes are more or less a free for all( at least where i have looked) I had her in a mommy and me class that was gymnastics like and it wasnt what i was looking for. I found a place near me tht i may go to tomorrow to check but from what I i read its basically lie obstacle courses they set up each week and they run around. I was thinking of maybe doing dance this year and then if she likes it continue next year or if not start gymnastics next year where its more tumbles and stuff than just running around. What would you do?

Re: Help me decide.. gymnastics or Dance for 3 year old
DD did dance at 3 and gymnastics at 4 and while neither of them were really very physical, I found the gymnastics to be a little more active than the dance.
At that age there is not much they can do w/ dance so it's really a lot of standing in place and moving their arms or legs. I found w/ gymnastics she moved a lot more and did more challenging things like the balance beam and parallel bars (with help of course ), and a lot more movement. I think she really enjoyed the gymnastics much more although it was hard to compare since they were done during different years.

dance at that age is a little more structured than gymnastics. Also many dance places incorporate gymnastics moves into their classes and have acro classes which are a combination of gymnastics and dance. It really all depends on the place that you go to and how you feel about it. I found a dance studio that we love and have tried out 2 different gymnastics places and wasn't too happy with them.

We did a combo class at that age at the Little Gym. It had a 1/2 hr of dance and a 1/2hr of gymnastics.

She really likes dance. I do think she would also love gymnastics. For us the situation was clear. We love to travel. We probably go somewhere once a month for a short weekend or what not. Gymnastics is approx $75 dance is approx $35 In the end if she missed a gymnastics class I would be throwing out alot more $$$ then dance. I couldnt justify that. Also if she is sick etc.. She is a girly girl and loves to dress up for dance with her tap shoes, leotard, and tutu. For us it all works. Though I could TOTALLY see her loving gymnastics. She def gets the rolling and tumbling in dance.
