Help me figure out what to do with DD for childcare for 2-3 months while IL's are away!
IL's told us last week they are going to be in NY starting in March for possibly 2-3 months. They own a business up there and work is being done on the bldg so they need to be there for the last leg of the work (FIL was gone for 3 months from aug-oct by himself and understandably would rather not go alone again for that long).
They are telling us now so we can get things in order for childcare for DD... but what do we do? Will a daycare center take her for only a few months? In the middle of the year? Do I look for someone in-home or a babysitter type for those few months? I've been so used to MIL watching her and I trust her 110%, i'm nervous about this (silly, i know). Where do I start??

I would probably try to find a sitter. can Len work from home at all, even temporarily?
start by asking other people you trust. so awesome of them to give you guys a good heads up!!!

you can try a center and not tell them you are only going for 3 months - some centers also allow when regisered emergency care so it may be a good back up - just check the requirments that there is no 1 year min- which i think is unusal and the time requirement to notify you are pulling your daughter

He can easily do his entire job from home. But, will they let him? Probably not. It can't hurt to ask though... thanks for the suggestion!
We also have a daycare center on campus where I work but I know it's full time only and I think it has to be for a year. It's a research center, but maybe i'll look into that just to see what they say.

I think you'll probably have to find a sitter or an in home daycare spot. You might get lucky and find a place to take her short term but I don't think that's likely. Good luck! I hate dealing with childcare, it feels so stressful to me.

What the daycare center doesn't know can't hurt them. People change daycare centers all of the time. So if you put her in there for a month or two it shouldn't be a problem.
Our daycare contract was for full time daycare, not for length of time that she had to be in there.

you can put her in a center. Just find out their leave policy.....like in my center, you have to give 2 weeks notice of leaving the center and then you are not responsible for the following month. Without notice, you are responsible for the month after you leave.

I would probably go with a daycare center as well and just find out the leaving policy first.

Do you think for DD that would be okay, to put her in a daycare for a few months then take her out and go back to being with MIL all day? Has anyone done that??

I would think a nanny/sitter would be best for the amount of time you are considering.
Just to be on the safe side though, I would still start looking into daycares though since it is my understanding many of them have wait lists.

They are all older probably around 5-7 so i'm sure they are in kindergarten and grade school, but i'll ask around.
I'm just debating on whether to just go the daycare center route or ask around for a babysitter/nanny type...

personally I think whatever change you make it should be permanent. it's going to be a big adjustment for her, and if your Inlaws can up and leave, they may need to do it again

ITA. Try the daycare...she's at the perfect age to be socializing w/ other kids She'll probably love it (I know my DD does...we have a f/t nanny, but we send her to daycare 2 mornings per week just so she can be around other kids). And she'll build up her immune system, too!
