Help my DD is refusing her sippy with milk

So I am trying to transition my DD to milk in a sippy. It was very easy with my DS, after he turned 12 months he took milk in a sippy and never looked back. My DD on the other hand takes a few ships and then pushes the cup away. Today she maybe drank 3 ounces. I really do not want to put milk in a bottle for her. I am not sure if she dislikes the milk or the sippy. It seems like she may not like the milk.

I am thinking about mixing some formula with milk. If you did this did how much milk and how many scoops of formula did you use. I welcome any other suggestions about how you dealt with a toddler refusing to transition to milk and a sippy. TIA

Re: Help my DD is refusing her sippy with milk

I was advised to do 1 oz milk/7 oz formula, then 2 oz milk/6 oz formula.. etc. The best way to find out if its the milk or the sippy is by putting the milk in her bottle. If she drinks the milk, then you know its the sippy. My DD HATED the first sippy I got her. Don't know what the problem was, but she would throw it. Bought her a different munhckin one and she loves it now. Good luck!

This is what I am hoping so I refuses to give in and put the milk in a bottle. I am just afraid she is not getting enough liquids. I mean today she maybe had 3 ounces of milk and very little water. If you had the same problem how long did it take you DC to finally give in. Thanks so much for your help.

If she is still on jarred foods, there is liquid in there too. Also, as long as she still has wet diapers, she will be fine.
Like the AP said, once she realizes that is how she is getting her liquids, that is it! Chat Icon Chat Icon

For DS1, I also did like an AP did, 1oz milk/7oz formula then 2oz/6oz, etc until it was completely milk. For DS2, I was nursing so I went straight to milk and he was absolutely fine. Chat Icon

She is not on jarred food, but she did have some fruits and veggies today. My DD is one stubborn little girl. She had a littlle less than 3 oz early this afternoon and since then she takes a sip and then pushes it away. AAAAAHHHH!! I don't want to cave and give her a bottle because then she sill never take a sippy. Thanks for your help!

Have you tried other sippy cups? We went through 4 or 5 different kinds before we found one she liked.

I just gave in and put the milk in her bottle and she is drinking it, so it must be the sippy. She does use the same sippy I put the milk in for her water, but when she drinks water it is only a few sips here and there. She doesn't guzzle it like her bottler. AAHHHH I just spent so much money on 2 new sippy cups from Born Free and already opened them and cleaned them. I just assumed she would drink the milk from them since she has been using them for water.

Anyway, thanks for your help and I guess I will be shopping again for new sippies. Which one did your daughter like?

Re: Help my DD is refusing her sippy with milk

My DD hates the sippy cups, I tried born free and playtex and even Nuby.

I tried the Straw cups made by munchkin and by Nuby and she drinks out of them with no problem.

Re: Help my DD is refusing her sippy with milk

Charlotte never got the hang of a sippy cup, she went right from the boob to a straw cup (the Munchkin brand). We also had to try a few different brands of milk...however it sounds like it's not the milk. I would try a straw cup or a different sippy.

Re: Help my DD is refusing her sippy with milk

my DD gave only a little prob but I def sampled a bunch of sippy cups to find which one she liked best..she liked the straw ones better than the ones you tilt your head back

but my nephew (30 mo old) is the one that is giving my SIL the probs, he uses his bottle like a binkie and she is trying to wean him off..and he cries, more like wines for baba pretty much all day...I told her she should just leaves the milk in the sippy on the table and ignores his wines for baba and he eventually he just takes it!

it is def less milk but it is something..it DEF DEF wont be as much milk your lo drink when it came from the bottle! this is true whether they transition nicely or not!

Re: Help my DD is refusing her sippy with milk

I had to use one of those transitional sippy cups for DS with the rubber top like a bottle nipple almost he hated the hard sippy cup lips, We used Nubby ones for awhile thewn moved to other rubber topped sippy cups then he eventually took to sippy cups but it was a rough transition. Good Luck!

Thanks so much for all you replies. So it is definitely the sippy because she drank the milk out of the bottle without a problem. I tried another sippy I have that my son didn't like and she did not like it either. I will try a couple of more I have from my DS then if that doesn't work I am off to the store again. Re: Help my DD is refusing her sippy with milk

I tried avent first since we used avent bottles. Then went to born free, munchkin and then another one I can't remember. She finally took to the take and toss cups. The only problem I had with them is that when you removed the handle, if she threw/dropped the cup the top would pop off. Once she was secure on that, I moved her to playtex (the third one that FelandJon posted).

It's frustrating. Where are you located? I have a whole bunch of cups that were never used, if you want to try a few.
