Help please - found a lump on my breast

I'm posting under an assumed name because only my DH knows this and I don't want anyone else finding out on the internet.

I had a gyno appt yesterday and he found a lump on my left breast. He gave me the name of a doctor to go to to get it checked out but all i could think of was getting out of the office so I forgot to ask what kind of doctor it is. My gyno's card says his practice is "Limited to Obstetrics and Gynecology" so would this just be another gyno that's not limited to that?

I'm scared to death right now and the doctor's office doesn't open until 10 so any info someone can give me, or if you've gone through this and can share your experience, I'd REALLY appreciate it. My paternal grandmother died of breast cancer and my maternal grandmother and a maternal aunt both had it and had masectomies so obviously it runs in my family



UPDATE: I have an appointment on Friday, April 7th to see the surgeon. Thank you all for your good wishes!!!! I'll let you know how the appointment goes.

Dont worry until its time...I know someone who has tons of lumps and its just that her breast are very cystic....I am sure it nothing.... just a precaution

It could turn out to be absolutely nothing

If you want to FM the name of the Dr. they're trying to send you to, I'll see if I know what kind of Dr. he/she is!

I have no advice but I found this link which may answer some questions. I do know that many lumps are just tissue mass.

This happened to my MIL and it was nothing -- but very scary. I am sorry, it must be so scary but try not to panic until you know.

Don't worry, it could be nothing...my breasts are cystic and they are always checking them to make sure it's nothing...so please don't stess...

Thanks I just called and they're in earlier than I expected. Apparently it's a generalized surgeon concentrating in breast surgery Ahhhhhh, lovely. I'll keep you guys updated when I know more.

I'm sorry this happened to you. It is very common for women in their 20s 30s and even 40s to feel lumps and they turn out to be cysts. Until you find out what it is, worrying is not going to help (I know it is hard not to worry). I will be

I'm so sorry... I know how scary it can be, but try to remember that many women have "lumpy" boobs and it turns out to be nothing. I once felt a lump and went to the Dr. They sent me for a mammogram and it turned out to be absolutely nothing.

Dont worry just yet. My sister has several lumps in her breasts - she just has "cystic breasts". It could be nothing.

Thanks again! I just updated the first post with this but I have an appt next Friday afternoon to see the surgeon. I'll let you all know how it goes.

I also want to say that I sometimes forget how unbelievably supportive this site can be and it is times like this when you're all making me feel so much better about a very scary situation that I remember. Thank you for that

I am glad that you got an appt right away.
Please let me know if you are not happy with the doctor. My mother has had numerous lumps removed and loves her doctor.

I know you are scared, but not all lumps are cancerous. Try to stay positive and focus on the fact that detected early breast cancer is the most beatable cancer there is. My mom is almost at 10 years in remission. She had a masectomy, but she also had reconstructive surgery and you'd never know anything happened. She is active and healthy. I will be praying for you, please keep us posted.
