Its a big adjustment the first few nights. Just go back in there put them back in bed and say good night. You will probably end of doing this about a million times before they finally fall asleep. Good luck tonight

Re: Help please: first night in toddler bed.
should I close the door and open or leave open so that they can walk out. one of DD is laying there trying to sleep while my other DD is causing the screaming and hitting the wall.

Re: Help please: first night in toddler bed.
When I first put Jake in his toddler bed I put a gate up at his door so he could not leave his room. He would call me from the door and I would go to him - it was a pain in the beginning but he got used to it.
I hope it gets easier for you tonight. I only had 1 to deal with so I cannot imagine what it is like with 2. Can you lay in bed with er until she falls alseep? I'm not sure if that could be a bad habit to start.

I think the gate idea is a good one.. I would feel too bad with DS knocking on the door screaming, like he's trapped or something.
Although, with the gate, he is still trapped, but not in such a "mean" way

We just went through this the other night with one, I can't imagine with two. The good news is it has gotten better each night. Hang in there!

Re: Help please: first night in toddler bed. UPDATE
We just started this and created a bad habit of laying with her until she fell asleep. Now we have a gate at the door, read a book or two, lay for a little bit...then it's like CIO all over again! . But from doing it in the past I know it works. Good luck!
