Help! Poo question

DS was 100% BF, but bc I am going back to work we have been slowly weaning him to the GoodStart formula over the past 2-3 weeks. He is pretty much almost all formula now.

The doc told us to expect him to have less poos, like possibly only one every 2 days -- not due to the formula, just due to a maturing belly. We noticed his output diminishing lately to about 2 poos a day...

WELL

He was straining a lot all day yesterday, trying to push something out. Last night his *** exploded! I have no idea how this much poo was in his small body. He filled an ENTIRE diaper and i am not exaggerating. It was ENORMOUS --- he poo is not hard, it is definitely quite mushy so I don't think he is constipated. But he does seem to be straining a lot to push something out... he already has an umbilical hernia and I'm afraid he's gonna give himself another one! I have no idea if the 2 things are related.

Our ped keeps saying "oh its normal." It is THE most frustrating thing to watch. Is all the strain normal even with mushy poo? He is 9 weeks today.

Re: Help! Poo question

My one DD had the same thing. They were BF and formula feed, most once I started giving more formula than BF, it was difficult for her to poop. She wouldn't go for a couple of days, then exploded. It was mushy and solid-like. The dr told me to give her babylax, to help her when necessary. And we also had to give her prune juice with water to help. My ped also told me that sometimes there rectum isn't stretched out enough, so when formula is introduced more it is difficult to poop, since BF poop is like water, it is easy to pass. But after a few formula poops, she has been fine. It still sometimes takes her a couple of days to poop. (Matter of fact the same thing happened yesterday, she pushed and pushed and I tiny bit came out) Ask about the prune juice that may help. Good luck
