He thinks it has something to do with the sump pump?

Your septic system should not be tied to anything related to the sump pump! Chat Icon

It sounds like there's a clog somewhere along the line. The drains for the toilet and tub are all gravity-fed the entire way (unless the bathroom is in the basement, then you may need a pump).

Re: HELP! Sump Pump Problem!

I've had that happen in two different places (apartments). Both times it was due to clogs in the sewer lines. Once, DH's upstairs neighbor's kid flushed rocks down the toilet, the other time it was clogged because a neighbor was flushing paper towels or woman's items or something (not sure, they just said it was a huge wadded clog)

Call any plumber and they should be able to snake the drain.

I had a feeling it was b/c of something that was flushed. Its DH bathroom which is in the basement and I think he was flushing baby wipes (non flushable) down the toilet.

Re: HELP! Sump Pump Problem!

Do you have a cesspool? If so you might need it pumped.

If not then there is something stuck in the line.

you will either have a cesspool or public sewer system.

A sump pump is a pump used to remove water that has accumulated in a water collecting sump basin, commonly found in the basement of homes. The water may enter via the perimeter drains of a basement waterproofing system, funneling into the basin or because of rain or natural ground water, if the basement is below the water table level.

This is usually not the issue and you might have (since it is a basement bathroom) an ejector pump which would pump the waste to the sewer/septic system.

then you have either a clog and you jsut need someone like roto rooter or if you have an ejector pump that might have failed and will not force the water where it needs to go.

Definitely sounds like a clog in something using the same waste line. call roto rooter!
my sinks started overflowing from the drain once in my apartment... turns out the lady upstairs caused a clog in the shared waste line, her place was fine, but the clog cause my sink (not being used) to flood over to my kithchen and she had to stop using her sink until the snaked it all (and found all her red hair clogging it cause she washes in the kitchen!)
good luck!
