Help: trouble with 2 year old going to bed

I am having a lot of problems with my 2 year old trying to get him to bed at night. When I tell him its time for bed he throws a tantrum. I put him in his crib and he will cry and cry. He asks me to sit in the room with him and I do sometimes, but most of the time he will not fall asleep and he will keep looking at me. He eventually will cry himself to sleep after about 35 minutes. I just wish there was a different way to do this. He has been climbing out of his crib and I have to keep putting him back. Soon we will be making his crib into the toddler bed and I think it will be worse. We took away his pacifier over a week ago and I think this is contributing, but I don’t want this to be a pattern. He has been going to be late like 10:30pm. Does anyone have any suggestions?? I need help with this. TIA

I actually think a toddler bed may help. Maybe he doesn't like being confined to the crib anymore and the bed will help that feeling for him

I think that the toddler bed might be the ans...he is getting old enough that he might not like to be confined...he might like to feel like he is more independent....my DD went to a toddler bed at 23 mo...maybe the first couple of days she was a little trouble going to bed..but I had visions of her getting up all night and she didnt-slept through the night from day 1 and now looks fwd to going up to her big girl bed...we really played it up to get her excited about it!

The reason why I suggest this is bec my friend could have written your post...she was having A LOT of trouble putting her 2 yr old to bed...screamed bloody murder for hrs every night until he passed out from exhaustion... she said that the night they changed...he slept through the night no prob...I guess it was his way of telling her he was ready!

Good luck!
