Help with getting doggy used to a new baby in the house.
I'm due in March.I could use any advice to help me along in the process of getting my dog ready for the baby. My dog is only going to be one when the baby arrives, so she is still a puppy herself. She is a pretty good dog, but does know how to get into trouble. She is also very attached to me and demands alot of attention. I'm a little worried about the whole situation. So any advice would be good.
Thanks!!!

I have no experience with this but I've heard that after the baby is born to bring home something with their scent on it for the dog to smell before bringing the baby home.

When my sister had my neice we brought the blankets home from the hospital that the baby was wrapped in so they could smell it. We would leave them around the house and then chuck them once we got new ones from the hospital.

It really helps if you can expose your dog to kids ahead of time too. My dog is 2 and I worked really hard with getting her used to kids on our daily walks. So she knows how to behave with our newborn DS (9wks today).
Definitely let her sniff the baby stuff, and once you bring the baby home just make sure to pay LOTS of attention to the puppy too, so it knows you still love him/her!
Use a baby gate to keep the puppy out of baby's room (or your room). My dog HATED being cut off from a room she used to be able to go in, so start NOW if you need to change the rules in your house ;)

I think this is really good advice. Think about some things the dog will NOT be able to do and some rooms the dog may NOT be allowed to go into. Change the rules now so the dog isn't overwhelmed when the baby comes home.
