Help with planning a meal for 19 people
Every year we go to Florida with DH's family. To make it affordable for everyone, each family takes a night and cooks dinner for the family.
There are 12 adults and 6 teenagers and my 2 year old
We did a regular old BBQ last year and that was fine, but DH was stressed with cooking.
One year we did penne ala vodka and lemon chicken...
I suggested a taco night, but DH is enh about it.
We need to do an appetizer, main course and sides, dessert and a drink
TIA!

What about a few trays of lasagna or ziti? It's easy, feeds a lot of people and a definite crowd pleaser.
A side could be a nice salad. I really don't think you need an appetizer with something as filling as lasagna or ziti. Drink... a nice red wine for the adults... soda/juice/water for the kids. Dessert... Strawberry shortcakes. You can buy the cakes pre-made at the grocery story and everyone can build their own... it would be fun for the kids and yummy for everyone!

Re: Help with planning a meal for 19 people
appetizer chips and guacamole
main chili
sides cornbread salad veggies
drink beer or margaritas
dessert ice cream.
I like chili for a lot of people b/c it's on (albiet LARGE) pot cooking. quick and easy.
you could also do lasagna or other baked pasta, but for me I would have to make sauce first, and it would turn into a 2 day project. not sure if that is what you are looking for.

Ohh, I should have mentioned that. One family does "Italian Night" every year....although, since I am really Italian, I'd like to take it over, but she doesn't seem to want to give it up

Boo!!! LOL.
Then stick with taco night.
Take some of the pressure off yourself and have everyone build their own taco... beef/chicken, lettus, salsa, sour cream, guac., black olives, tomatoes, onions....
Chips and salsa or queso (or salsa and queso MIXED!) for an app. and margarita for drinks!
Have ice cream for dessert, but call it helado (spanish for ice cream! LOL).

i think the chili that someone else posted is a great idea. easy to make a large quantity of. i've done a chili bar before. i made cornbread as a side and had all kinds of toppings for the chili like - Sour Cream Salsa Sliced Jalepenos Chopped White Onion Shredded Cheddar Cheese Cilantro Sliced Black Olives Corn/Tortilla Chips Bacon Hot Sauce

Re: Help with planning a meal for 19 people
I just did a big Spanish themed dinner with paella as the main dish. It was easy and a huge hit.
You can do any kind of tapas for appetizer - garlic & lime shrimp skewers is a good one.
Paella is a one dish main course.
Dessert can be fried plaintains, tres leche cake, flan or maybe just tropical fruit salad.
Drinks? White Sangria (Muscato wine, champagne, orange juice, apple liquor, sliced fruit in a big punch bowl. You can have matching mock sangria for the kids with seltzer, fruits, fruit juice and grenadine.
