Help with sippy cup or learning to use a real cup.

Kevin just can't get the hang of a sippy. He just bites the spout and most of the water just spills down his front.

We've tried almost every sippy out there but its always the same...bite, bite, bite, so sipping.

Any tips on teaching a one year-old to drink from the cup without getting drenched each time.

Also, how do you teach a toddler how to use a straw?

Something that may be fun and help him is to give him a real cup in the bathtub and put water in it as he takes a bath and let him drink from it. Then the spills and dribbles are no big deal. That helped us.

And as far as learning how to use a straw, I gave Jack a small juice box one time, held it, had him put the straw in his mouth and squeezed the juice for him. After about a minute he realized that if he sucked on the straw the juice came out.

As far as teaching the straw...my cousin would fill the straw with liquid and put her finger over the top to keep it in. Then she would have her daughter suck it out the bottom and she figured it out pretty quickly from there. I cannot vouch for that method since we have not started straws yet, but it can't hurt to try, right?

There are "regular" cups with lids now, that you can buy instead of sippy cups. They work like a regular cup but the lid keeps the liquid from spilling.

bryan never got the hang of the regular sippys with out me holding the he couldnt get enough height. But he loves the straw cups and has been using them instead. I never really taught him, he just did it himself, I know that with my nephew who is also the same age it took him awhile to get the hang of the straw then one day he just started doing it and that was it. Keep trying he will get the hang of it.
