hematoma? anyone ever had one?
So last week I found out I was preggo with a hpt- I went in for bloodwork last Monday and began bleeding that evening so I feared the worst. I was told my levels were only 12, and that I was probably miscarrying. Was told to come back two days for more bloodwork and I did, but I never called to check on it because I was already bleeding alot.
Well yesterday I tested again because I felt off and i was VERY positive, much darker than last week. I called the dr and my levels tripled to 36 in those 2.5 days. I should be getting a phone call from my doctor today about what to do next, but I am still obviously fearing the worst
Could this be a hematoma? Has this happened to anyone before?

Re: hematoma? anyone ever had one?
What's REALLY frustrating is that the doctors can't even do anything at all except check numbers and then around 6wks do an ultrasound. I didn't have any bleeding at all with this pregnancy, but I will say though that I had low numbers in the beginning too and was told to prepare for the worst. It was at 18 and then went onto triple every 2 days and I was STILL always told to be cautious cause they were low. It ended up progressing beautifully and I'm in 2nd tri now with everything going well. However, I did have a miscarriage a couple years back and since it was too early for an ultrasound we checked the numbers and for some reason they did continue to go up for a little while before they finally dropped. It was an awful state of limbo to be in. So I honestly hate HCG #'s. I think they are way too deceptive. I hope some girls on here have some experience with hematoma or that it's something your Dr would be able to check on. Will you continue to get your numbers checked though? As much as I hate them, I honestly would request that just so you can see if they ever do start to decline. Bleeding isn't always a sign for miscarriage.

Yes: I had this in my early pregnancy (hematoma). Then I had more bleeding mid-pregnancy (placenta previa).
I'm now 31 weeks: I bled through most of the pregnancy... so it CAN work.
I did have to get lots of rhogam shots though!

what are rhogam shots? and is it normal that I have been bleeding for 10 days now? it is heavy enough that I need to wear pads, but I can basically wear one for a long time before having to change it. Still odd that I am bleeding for so long. I had a m.c. in Jan at 6 weeks, and I only bled for 4-5 days!

I bled for a long time & varying amounts. With the hematoma, I had a few days (3-5) of light bleeding (in contrast to my period: where I get heavy bleeding). It was only super heavy with my placenta previa though (14 weeks-???25 ish weeks).
If your blood type is Rh negative, you need it when exposed to baby's blood. They said I needed it every time I bled:

I had a hematoma at 5 weeks. Bright red blood when I wiped that lasted for a week ; thought the worst but already had betas done and it started the day I was going in for a sonogram. It eventually tapered to random dark brown but it was scary.

When I wiped it was like AF. I did put on a pad but when it hit the pad it appeared more like spotting. The size of my hematoma was pretty small. If you have a large one that could be the reason for it being heavy since it's more blood that as the uterus grows it's pushing out.

Re: hematoma? anyone ever had one?
TMI:
I had a hematoma (SCH) when I was pregnant with DD. I remember sitting on the couch, standing up, and feeling something on my leg. I looked down and blood was pouring down. I mean pouring/gushing. I ran to the bathroom and there was a trail of blood everywhere. It looked like a massacre. I knew I had the SCH, but with the amount of blood, I was sure I was miscarrying (I think I was 6 weeks at the time). Dr. told me to lay down and stay that way if I was bleeding.
The hematoma resolved on its own by the time I was 10-12 wks. DD is 2 years old now. Bleeding during pregnancy is so frightening. I'm sorry you're going through this. While only your doctor can tell you if it's a SCH or a loss, heavy bleeding can certainly be an SCH.
Sending positive thoughts your way.

hematoma? anyone ever had one?
update: My doctor just called and said to wait until the end of the week for more blood work and if they are higher, that we have to "take care of it"... i'm just very confused because tests are very positive right now so i don't get why he's still assuming this is a chemical?

Give it some more time..I went through this for 3 weeks. I was spotting from a hematoma, my levels weren't where they wanted them and they didin't see anything in the sac because it was earlier than we had thought. Every other day I was told to prepare for a MC. It was rough. I am now 19 weeks along and all is well. Try and stay positive and just give your body some time to do what it needs to do. I would hold off doing anything drastic for a few weeks. Especially if other signs are pointing in the positive direction.

thank you- I know there is really nothing that can be done at this point but to wait it out so that's what I'll just have to do!

I am going in for blood work today to see if my levels actually rose or not. I am STILL bleeding, but now it's very light- Still odd that I bled for 11 days though. I have been taking wondfos every other day and the lines have been getting darker, so I don't even know what to think at this point.
My doctor basically said he is expecting a loss of the pregnancy, given that my levels were only 12 when I went in for bloodwork the first time. That was when I was exactly 4 weeks, though so I feel like that could be normal? and the fact that they were 36 two days later seems fine to me.
ugh who knows- I guess I will have to wait and see what today's bloodwork shows

There is a very wide range of normal. If your tests are getting darker its a good sign. Good luck!

should be getting my results today- they said to call around noon. I took another wondfo yesterday and it was lighter than the others, though. So it's not looking too good!

Best of luck to you! Hope you get some good news. Don't think about the wondfos-- could be other reasons its lighter, you never know.
