HEP B and other Vaccine ?'s
Ok..Im becoming so anxious about the vaccines....
I am wondering if anyone didnt do the HEP B...I mean why is it neccesary to give this to a newborn? Or child for that matter?
And other vaccines. Did anyone ask their ped to space them out better, not do 4 or what not at one visit?
Did anyone selectivly choose vaccines? ...example...rotovirus? Some people say that its more harmful then good. I dont think I am going to have Noah get this one....
I would like to have the strength to just do them all and get it over with. I believe vaccines for most things are needed, BUT....I also dont believe that Dr's know best, they are doing what saves them time and money and what they believe is best for the babies, but they know if they talk about the risks, too many parents WONT vaccinate and then where will we be.
This is not an argument on whether or nto to vaccinate...just curious about the above issues.
TIA!!!

Re: HEP B and other Vaccine ?'s
I didnt do the hep B until Talia was about a year old or so. I didn't really see the need for it any younger than that.
ETA: I only did it at that age because of certain contact she was having with other kids.
Also with the other vaccines I only give 2 at a time. Usually one she has already had (that I know she didnt have a reaction to) and 1 new one - so if she has a reaction I know which shot it is from. I seperated the MMR shot - and waited alittle while to give it to her - she started at 18 months.

Re: HEP B and other Vaccine ?'s
I've never been worried about them...the only one I would eliminate if I could is chicken pox...I've always felt it was a rite of passage for kids. yeah, i'm weird.
I did have them give DS the hep. in the hospital, but mostly because he was going to have to have it anyway and at least this one I wouldn't have to "hold him down" for.
He gets his first round of shots in 2 weeks (his 6 week appt), the dr. informed me that they don't do more than 2 shots at a time in the practice. I wasn't worried, but it was good to know they are looking out for the kids.
Talk to your pediatritian about your concerns and see what can be done. Unfortunately, if you refuse shots now, you might find yourself in a situation later as kids are required to have certain vaccinations before they can enter public school...UNLESS you can prove religious exemption.

Re: HEP B and other Vaccine ?'s
Hep B we did, ped highly rec this , an infant can get this through their mom. If that child has it your child when playing with them can get it through blood or bodily fluids. and we know when kids play they come into contact with just about everything from someones blood from a cut to snot from a runny nose.
rotovirus- highly rec this. It is one of the MOST common virul infections in YOUNG children. Infants including. I wouldnt chance this.
the other vaccines, we are going by our ped's schedule and even though it is only 2 shots - 1 in each leg- they are multiple vaccines in each shot. Just be aware of that. but it shouldnt be more than that. the rotovirus is oral.

The only two Im considering not doing is Hep b as its only passed thru IV drug use and sexual contact and rotovirus as its basically just for diarehea(sp?) and many believe it helps the baby to get that out of his system in the first place.... And these two are "optional"
I would give all the rest, just curious about timing etc...

Re: HEP B and other Vaccine ?'s
We are on schedule with the shots. However, I have declined the Hep A, flu and rotovirus. And as far as the HepB, I didn't start in the hospital I waited for the pediatrician to take care of it in his office.

Our paperowrk says hep B CANNOT be spread through blood or saliva...only sexual intercourse and an already infected needle.

Donna an infant can get this if she is infected and gives birth. and Yes it can be spread through blood- I had to get the shot being in the dental field for that reason- mandatory
pasted this for you- are infants born to HBsAg (hepatitis B surface antigen)-positive mothers are healthcare workers who have contact with blood

Was the Dr cooperative and when would you want to delay till? Just curious.
My dr is fully prepared for me each visit! He knows I read too much. I did not want to start food till 6 months...at 4 months, dr says "I know books say 6 months, but this baby is big and looking for food." I feel confident in our relationship.
Dr did not at all question me and my concerns. He said he did not think it was necessary but will assist in any way he can. He told me the only link he possibly believes in with autism is if the father of the baby is an older man. He said those numbers make him take notice.
***I did have the option of rotovirius. Dr told me the baby's lie there for a week, lifeless, dehydrated, and weak. It is so easy to catch. He said if Josh was in a daycare, he would not think twice about pushing me into it. But, he said patients get it on planes..anywhere really.
He said any rotovirius vaccine side effects are nothing compared to virius. I sound collected about it now, but after the first dose I went home and cried...Yelled at Leo for not reading up on it and giving his opinion,.

Maybe they should check their paperwork against the Hep B foundation?Link
I vaccinated for the HepB shot on the suggested schedule. Mainly because my chlidren were going to be in daycare which, lets face it bodily fluids can get exchanged.

Rotovirus (or Rotavirus) is a common viral infection among young children. It is the most common cause of diarrhea in U.S. children and is a leading cause of death among children in developing countries. The virus works by attacking the lining of the small intestine, causing often copious loss of fluids and electrolytes. The virus is spread through oral contact to fecal material, and is common in child care environments.

I did ther rotavirus as well. The way my doctor put it is if they DO get this virus, they can be in the hospital for 4 days with an IV due to dehydration...DD actually liked that medicine, it is given orally through a dropper ...she lapped it up

I thought the RSV shot was only for preemies and babies with underdevloped lungs, so why are people having it done??
As far as the Hep B shot we had our PED do it. I didnt want to take any chances of my boys being exposed to it when we took them out in public

The rotavirus isn't RSV. RSV is respiratory. Rotavirus is serious vomiting/diarrhea

I did hep b by my ped.
Christopher has to be vaccinated against everything. DH is an emt for the city and the things they come in contact with would make your skin crawl. When I wasin the hospital at 20 weeks they asked me if I had I have come into contact with anyone with TB and I say no. DH goes "uhhhh, I have" Greeeaaatt
Is chicken pox madatory for school now?

yes, unless you can prove through a blood test that your child already has the antibodies in them, through exposure.
However, it is one of the ones you can effectively delay as it is not mandatory until the child enters 6th grade.
